Just about any established celebrity can sell a podcast to Sirius for over ten times what Norton or Sam make. And a major celebrity can sell their podcast rights for probably 100x what Norton and Sam get paid together. Opie always made seven figures. Norton and Sam never made mix six figures.
Stern, O&A, random celebrities who got Sirius or XM contracts. They always made good money if not insane money. But people like Sam, Norton, or even Artie Langue. Got paid way less than people who put in the same hours and hosted shows alongside them. Artie made $500K a year at KROCK and when he was on the Nick and Artie Show. His Sirius pay was slightly above that but never $1million per year. Stern was making around $5million at KROCK and Jackie was making close to $1million a year. Then Artie makes $500K to Stern's $100million a decade later to show you how huge the pay differences at Sirius were.
If you were connected with a good agent you could sell your celebrity podcast to Sirius for millions with no effort. Like Oprah, Conan, Eminem, or Jason Bateman or whatever. Just giving some low effort podcast or channel name to the company for millions. But someone like Sam works his way up through the company and probably gets just as many listeners for 1,000x less in pay.
I thought opie hinted at his salary being over 1 million at the sirius peak and got cut in half after his last few contracts. I don’t have any inside info, just a vague memory. I do remember Jim Norton didn’t have a contract when they got fired and they just stopped paying him his 50 grand salary
