there's a lot of stuff in UK whereby you can just say 'what are you gonna do about it?' including most civil litigation, bailiffs, parking fines, some taxes... it's almost like a life hack once you realise, anyone without the power of arrest gets told to 'fack orf' & letters get used as kindling.
Things which are court-ordered can be slightly different, if Rick's case had happened in UK (skipping a few points) then the court would give a 'possession order' to go take his stuff & put a lien on his house. This is because stupid Fatrick has almost become a defendant in his own case - not technically but moneywise.

If someone tried to sue me in the UK then I could ignore it, but then it might be judged in absentia & they'd be chasing the money, the above collection tactics would apply, but if I avoided them for six years then it'd probably be thrown-out.
Yeah, this happened with a neighbour of my dad's. He had some land dispute with another neighbour - an old guy. The old boy took him to court and won. The first guy ended up owing him about six grand. He happened to sell his house a few months later (so he definitely could afford to pay the old fella), but he fucked off without paying him. Just ignored it. The old guy died not long after and his daughters tried to get the money, but the prick just blanked them. As far as I know, nothing happened to him.

Pat is going to say he needs time to find a lawyer and he’ll probably get around a month continuance.
This, or he'll attempt to go into the stalking nonsense which the judge will swiftly put on the pay-no-mind list and tell him to be back in 30-60 days with a lawyer. The judge might even ask how long he needs to get a lawyer. Either way, I think there's gonna be a lot of blue balls around here later this week. Only thing funny that we won't be able to see is pat showing up to court in his ill-fitting blazer over a t-shirt and blue jeans.

He has had plenty of time to find a lawyer and has openly and repeatedly shown contempt for the court order, why would the Judge give him even more time? Some of you are even bigger retards than Rick.

All the actual attorneys opining on this seem to believe that his motion to stay will be granted. Even though he filed past the deadline, and there's a 99.99999% chance that he's just doing this to kick the can down the road in the hopes that Quasi gets arrested, unless he has given a statement where he clearly states "I will file a motion to continue for the sole purpose of delaying the proceedings", the judge may tend to grant it just to give Fatso every opportunity to defend himself.

This is why admin is nudging someone to get a copy of fatso's motion. Reading fatso's pro se motion to continue has to be a veritable rib buffet.
I'm just hoping it wasn't filtered through a lawyer at all, pro bono or not, and it was drafted in entirety by Rick himself and by some miracle managed to fullfil the basic requirements of a legal motion.

Highly doubtful but a man can dream.

This. He could probably get a lawyer to get him a continuance, or at least tell him what to put into the motion in order for it to barely succeed. If he just wrote it himself without consulting anybody, and just said "DURR stlakers" he's fucked

"Your Honor, I am requesting demanding from you an indefinite continuance on both the contempt hearing and paying my abuser. You see, child, he told me one time on Twitter that I have "sloppy tits." - This is a criminal lie, judge; All my prior male partners have described my breastmeat as 'perfectly succulent.' Enjoy prison."

Judges are incredibly lenient with citizens because most of us are morons when it comes to the law and don't understand how the system works. The judge will assume Pat is a moron and isn't going to want to be seen as railroading him when he can just give a bullshit 2-4 week continuance to "find an attorney". I'd be shocked if he isn't granted the continuance. Pat might even "fire" his first lawyer and ask for another continuance to find another one.
