Half Life 2 was like the new Star Wars movies. No one dared criticize them because it was 'Half Life'. And no one was autistic enough like the RedLetterMedia faggots to devote years of their life obsessing over the Star Wars movies and making painstaking reviews of them. I remember playing Half Life 2 and realizing that the franchise was over and done with right then and there. That they were already out of ideas.

Story based franchises usually end up failing because most video games writers are hacks. Just look at Mass Effect. Simply stories like 'rescue the princess' work for Mario. Or just ripping off mafia movies or gang movies like the GTA games works fine.

This is why so many people talk about The Witcher III. The Baron quests alone are have far better writing than nearly any other video game stories.

one of my buds back then said the same thing about HL2. he was fanatical about hating it in a way that seemed ridiculous to me, he pushed it so far that even valid criticisms got sucked under into his weird vehemence about it. Honestly looking back he still seems like a jilted freak who had some insane expectations that were impossible to imagine let alone deliver on. It was like a proto red letter media faggotry where it's more about demonstrating the sophistication of your critical interpretations than it is about enjoying and analyzing a game for itself

Reminds me of people who liked sequel to The Matrix movie. What you're describing is the opposite, but the same phenomenon.

After watching the movie, the people I saw it with said they loved it. I said it sucked.

I had other friends say they loved it too.

They would say things like, "The movie was just so deep with philosophy that the average person just can't understand it man, they just don't get it" and they would clarify that they weren't talking about me.

No, it was a shit movie.

I almost never buy "new" games, but this was definitely the biggest piece of shit the last decade from a AAA developer. A 60 hours uber eats simulator.

Don't know why I gave it a shot when I thought MGSV was a total piece of shit too. So why I thought this pseudo closet case would do any different with a new IP?

The faggot blamed the poor sales in the US because we prefer "FPS." Yet this guy had the entire English speaking gaming market in his hand for 20 years with a series that was focused strongly on it's storytelling. "It was too deep for you, bro."

Him and his faggot hard on, trying to get into Pedowood when he's even worse than the hacks they hire nowadays to write and direct.
I absolutely loved this game, played it all the way to the end and the ending really pulled my heartstrings. But I'm in the minority on that one.

Pretty much every sports video game since Ultimate Team-type game modes became a thing. They're closer to casino games like video poker now than what was once considered a video game. The last great sports games were NCAA Football 14 and NBA 2K11 with the Jordan Challenge.
MLB The Show is the only current franchise that doesent focus all of its attention on the ultimate team (called Diamond Dynasty mode) game. It’s Franchise and Road to the Show modes are still as good as they’ve ever been. And since 2017 they’ve changed up the throwback jerseys, for a while like 4 straight games had the same ones. Lol. I still like The Show. Madden, NHL and NBA 2K all suck now. But I did like PGA Tour 2K21. Thought it was much better than the last few EA Golf Games.
