i'm guessing pat complained and got him canned because he told him he wasn't going to owe quasi's court costs. or maybe because he just reneged on paying them like the renigger he is
Could be something here, I remember we joked about Pat losing his lawsuit then going after his lawyer for advising him to continue this obvious joke of a lawsuit. Just from some of the emails we’ve seen in Apostlegate Pat most likely went after the law firm to tell on Brinton because he’s been running to tell on people his whole life. That or they found out Brinton told Pat to deface his own property since the security footage was 100 % Pat.

Isn't the whole point of being an ambulance chasing, two-martini-lunching, put-the-hooker-on expenses lawyer to sniff out schmucks like Pat and take him to the cleaners?

I think the lolsuit was business as usual and the timing is just coincidence.
That’s true but even by ambulance chaser standards Resto did things that go beyond the “grey” area when it comes to being a lawyer. He told a judge all the John does lived in Wisconsin even though it was obvious they didn’t. I bet Pat went and told on Resto about all the unethical shit he did / told him and they figured he wasn’t worth the liability. It’s one thing to tell your client to wear a unneeded neck brace in court but it’s another thing to do what Resto did. Brinton got greedy with this case and kept it going after Judges suggested he stop. Or maybe the ones funding the suit got very upset with the 100k bill on a case that did absolutely nothing.

We saw how Brinton has no charisma in court and doesn't have much knowledge about his supposed specialty. My guess is that Brinton got a bad performance review and realized that he'd never make partner at Minc, or any other firm for that matter, so he decided to go out on his own. He'll end up working more for about the same amount of money.

And it would further explain Patrick's insistence that he didn't lose and he owes nothing - HE WUZ ROIPED BY HIS LAWYER!

I was going to say that there's no way he wouldn't have put that in his Tweet thread about the case. Something about "We had an open and shut case but my lawyer fucked everything up."

Then I remembered that he was bragging about signing and NDA. Maybe that's what the NDA was for. Minc Law agreed to get rid of the legal fees and in return Fat would keep his mouth shut about the case and not sue Minc.

It's all reach, and I know this.

But the timing would line up. And there's logic behind the thought.

For me, it's the only reason that the SFWA wouldn't be throwing a bigger shit fit right now. If they were really out that money, I can't see Pat lasting there.

Doesn't matter if he knows they're secrets either, hasn't seemed to stop those degenerates.

Even if that were true he'd still have to #PAYQUASI. Pay up, Pig!

Brinton fucked it up by siding with emotion over logic. Logically, he should have recused himself from the case long ago. We'd have a laugh that his lawyer quit him, but he'd fade into Carrie Goldberg obscurity and move on with his career at Minc Law, perhaps with a life lesson that some clients aren't worth it if they refuse to listen.
I think it was desperation, not anger. Something made him abandon his very expensive Wine Law training, and something made him not just take this dogshit case but (if I'm reading his submissions right) sign off on evidence illegally obtained via hacking as being sighted by him.

Something's chasing that boy, making him take risks that he shouldn't.

I have a thought here, and hear me out:

What if, due to Brinton's eagerness to screw over Patty by accepting a dead in the water lawsuit, over-billing and over-charging the rube, and adding in the clear lies he told the court and probably Pat himself, Minc cut its losses (and possibly avoided a lawsuit against themselves for irresponsible negligence) by both firing Brinton AND forgoing all monetary gain from Patrick?
I both hate and believe this theory. I don't think Patty's brags about an NDA are related, though.

We'll know soon enough, as the SFWA have to file an annual report with the IRS explaining how they've spent their money; if there's a $100k hole we'll notice.

That was me. I called Nicole out in a post explaining that he would fuck her over if the case resulted in anything less than a tickertape parade and an international speaking tour, and then had a page of links to Fats being an asshole to people who were trying to help him. That was pre-Brinton appearing on the scene, stepping out of the shadows and lowering his cloak like a gay vampire.

Hopefully we get all our old shit back, soon.

I know people think that Brinton scammed Pat, but I don't think this is the case. This is the exact reason lawyers don't take on cases like Pat's because they know fucking up a case this bad can tank your career and reputation. In Brinton's case, it's pretty much sunk his career as a lawyer considering how young he is already.

I think Brinton was simply way over his head and bought into some of the lies Patrick probably told him. There was no way they were actually going to go after all 60 John Does, to go after that many people across multiple states would require hiring multiple lawyers and would easily cost millions when all is said and done. The whole plans was simply to go after Quasi expecting he would fold and get him to take down the site. '

What they weren't expecting was for Quasi and Null to fight back and I think very quickly after that happened Brinton knew the case was fucked and he was way in over his head. All of his other cases he won he simply would subponea whoever and they'd just take the content down with no retaliation. I'm also pretty sure some of the shennanigans like "We have no reason to believe anyone is outside of Milwaukee" and Pat's fake evidence video got back to the people at Minc Law which also probably had something to do with him getting canned.

Either way, Brinton's career as a lawyer is done. To take on such a dumb case and fumble it this bad will follow you around for the rest of your career that there is no way any other firm would hire him.

It's not like he had no choice and had to see the case through to the end. He could have bailed and passed the case on to senior members of his team. There were probably more seasoned lawyers at the firm who advised him that the case was a stinker but he slogged on anyway because he's stupid and greedy - and is someone who lies to judges(!) as we have seen. So fuck him. He deserved the firing. In fact, he got off easy. He really deserves to be disbarred and fined for his shenanigans.

I agree with everything Mew said. Let's not give Patrick too much credit here. Resto's own hubris is why this case was allowed to go on as long as it did. Any lawyer worth their salt would have either never gone along with this nonsense or pulled the plug immediately. This greenhorn tried every sleazy lawyer trick in the book including lying under oath and admitting illegal evidence.

He's a piece of shit just like his whore sister.
