Al was upset that Opie wouldn't say hi to him in the hallway and spent thousands of dollars on a lame gift to try and become friends, the destroyer was having none of it.

This was probably the height of O&A's fame and friendship with Ron & Fez. Any other show would be pissed off their producer's gift was destroyed. Ron & Fez were beaming with joy whole Opie smashed it, almost to the point that it sounded like it was R&F's idea all along. Like they psy-opped Al and Opie into it.
