The other side of this phenomenon is women derailing and unnecessarily stretching out what should be simple and pointless anecdotes (because it's about a woman) with who-gives-a-fuck details about someone you've never even met who is tangentially related to the story

I love my wife don't get me wrong. I got home last night and made myself some food and as I'm eating she took 15 mins to tell me why she had a meeting with someone now instead of at the beginning of the year. Turns out her subordinate was busy. My eyes glazed over and I nearly left the room.

You guys don't know how much they want you to tell them to shut up and get to the point. They're like children where they deliberately annoy you in the hopes you'll exercise some control. Even just telling them "I'm not going to retain this information at all" straightens them out a bit.

When I stayed home last month I sat out in the living room watching Ken Burns baseball. She kept coming out of the office to talk to me and then woke me up during a nap to ask if I was hungry. I said "no I'm tired that's why I was sleeping" and degenerated from there. I got married relatively late in life and she cannot understand that I occasionally miss the ability to do whatever I want, and that includes doing nothing by myself.

My wife is a stay at home mom and new to NYC, being able to speak just basic English. She calls me every 20 minutes because she's lonely and scared.
