People (especially modern people) hate callers, and Opie is synonymous with them. People have been spoiled by comedy podcasts being pure riffing with no need to fill dead air, I think. That's why it wasn't a big idea back in the day, but the Opie hate started taking steam post 2010, same timeframe as comedian podcasts.

Podcasts without callers is such a waste of air. Too much of the same people talking with zero feedback.

No way. People spend every other minute on social media talking to an audience of zero. Imagine being able to call into a show like Rogan or the Tonight Show and speak to the entire audience live with no filter. People love calling into shows and interacting with celebrities. Comic Cons are huge business as are autograph shows for athletes. Being able to speak directly to the people you watch every day on television or listen on radio would trump indirect social media interactions for basically anyone. Social media has these desperate losers who want to be heard yet have zero people paying attention to them. An empty auditorium for their thoughts.

Like imagine after HBO airs Game of Thrones or whatever you could call into an after show and talk to the actors and actresses and writers every single Sunday. And callers could ask about the show and do song parodies and even visit the studio. Nothing like O&A really exists now. Stern no longer takes callers even. Everything is ultra curated and protected. Even sports shows are doing away with callers and only allowing pre-taped calls or fan submissions through email and social media.

Social media has given everyone a platform, for free even, just with zero audience. You can say all you want, but no one is listening. It is a very anti-social way of interacting with the world. O&A gave a handful of callers and listeners a platform every day with an audience in the millions. It was a very unique show.

I don't know a single person who listens to comedy podcasts. Everyone I know who listens to podcasts basically listens to 'true crime' ones or they get their entertainment from streaming movies or shows. Even Rogan is almost obscure at this point outside of MMA fans and fag Navy Seal wannabe losers. How many people do you know who really listen to comedy podcasts regularly?

And the Opie hate only started AFTER Anthony was fired. People were generally happy with O&A in 2013 and 2014. The show had some of its biggest moments and seemed to be firing on all cylinders. Only after Opie and Jim and then Opie's firing did Anthony really get the fans to turn against Opie. And even then those fans were the ones who started listening to Patrice or Burr shows on Youtube in 2016 or later and were never even around for the live shows.

If you were around during 2004-2014 the fans were rarely angry with anyone on the show for a prolonged time (aside from basically hating Danny). Once the show imploded then everyone turned on the three of them over time. But the 'new' fans from youtube who started listening to the show after 2014 were the real Opie haters.

the thing that people don't understand radio became obsolete by that time. Imagine being a welder in a car factory and one day robots take your jobs. That's what happened in his case, even satellite radio was a cheap knock off of FM.

Opie was through and through a student of radio and radio man. That's why he gave the show an arc, a structure or atleast tried to.

I was listening to that earlier and didn’t realize Jim was in for at least half an hour because he’s silent.
He was once asked about that on his advice show and said he often enjoys just listening Op and Ant talk. I can't disagree with him. If it wasn't about Opie's family (which Ant didn't give a shit about) or politics talk (which Opie didn't give a shit about) and Jim and Sam stayed quiet enough, the first hour was still good during that 2013-2014 era.

Maybe it's a generational thing? A lot of people in the comment sections in that era are synonymous with the Comedian podcast boom. Look at the google trends map for Bill Burrs podcast for example:

1683149249580.png

The people in the comments section on youtube will be decreasingly people who actually listened to the radio show back in the day, and will instead be people wanting to hear some old appearance of Bill Burr, Louis CK, etc. Or they heard some comedian going on about how funny Patrice O'Neal is and start listening to the show that way.

And to those people who start with podcasts, callers (especially old radio callers on a dead show) will be jarring. I get your point, people may want to get their call taken, or their question answered, but they have no interest in hearing caller number #3 talk about whatever.

In terms of if anyone is listening to comedy podcasts, just look at what the top earning thing on Patreon is right now:

I think eric logan leaving, sirius acquiring xm and steve c's firing also destroyed the show, there is a sense of despondence and misery especially after the "merger". Opie slowly realized that he has nowhere to go and the only thing holding him is million dollar contracts.

In this interview, the jew Mel Karmazin (who is howard's corporate pet) just basically humiliates the boyz telling them their contract renewals are still on hold and he doesn't care. And that they have no clout whatsoever and they better behave.

Sam was always a hateable in those days in addition to Danny, but there were a lot of Pests who gave Sam some leeway because of his involvement with Jocktober. I was not one of them.

I love how they threw Bubba The Love Sponge under the bus by playing the audio of him saying he would quit the new merged company if they allowed O&A to stay. O&A stayed and got Mel on the show, played the audio and Mel basically put Bubba on the pay no mind list and told him "tough shit." Bubba backpedaled and didn't quit.

Steve's firing was literally management going to every station and randomly firing someone as part of some corporate restructuring. Every channel had one employee fired just so that the suits could tell everyone they were increasing "efficiency" or some other corporate buzzword. Management didn't actually have Steve C even fired technically. They just fired the entire position of 'executive producer'. So no one was even allowed to be promoted into that position. O&A asked if they could promote another staffer or hire someone from outside of the company and were told "the position is no longer part of your staff". They were not allowed to have an executive producer anymore.

It was management downsizing the show permanently and basically a big signal that they were never going to be the face of the company. Sirius was never going to allow them or any other channel to be heavily promoted like how XM would run things. Their entire strategy now in 2023 is just to give free radios and a year of service to new car owners and then pray that they renew the subscription.
Opie slowly realized that he has nowhere to go and the only thing holding him is million dollar contracts.
They all knew that. Stern knows that. Sirius is one of the most incompetently run entertainment companies in the world. It is a miracle that they are even alive still. XM was probably run even worse. They have a state sanctioned monopoly on satellite radio yet are accomplishing nothing. They could be in every single car in the entire world. Imagine a state sponsored monopoly on cable or the internet or video streaming being barely kept alive and no one using that service anymore.

Mel is definitely one of the reasons that Anthony and then Opie were fired. Stern has done nigger jokes and wished cancer deaths on people on air. And Stern filmed way worse things than people shitting in the bathroom and basically drove actress Dana Plato to suicide. Stern was basically filming pornography with his sex machine in the studio for years. But he had the magic jewish protection.

O&A lost any chance of protection when they ripped on Howard's stupid daughter for her kabbalah play. "My vagina!!!". He likely still has nightmares over that incident. One of his daughters, maybe the same one, did some poem called 'Zoozazooo' and the Stern fans found it and did a hundred different song parodies and kept trying to get them played on air and it ended up causing Howard to permanently stop taking callers that were not screened. Stern will not take liver callers ever again on his show so in a way O&A and his own fans that have turned on him haunt him continually while Opie and Anthony probably don't even think about Howard anymore except in passing.

I listened to his wedding saga on Stern and how happy he was to be marrying some young bimbo. I’m glad he’s divorced.

Bubba had one of his wives fuck Hulk Hogan on camera so he could jack off to it then sell it to TMZ or whatever. Instead it backfired spectacularly. Making Bubba look like a cuck virgin incel loser. Hulk was shown to have a 15" cock beer can thick. And Bubba made no money from it instead Hulk made millions and put Gawker's original staff to waste in the process. Anyone who would marry a guy like that is either a rabid gold digger or seriously damaged goods. And anyone who would be friends with him and go to his house is nuts as well.

I think Bubba just got off on that, and then when his wife left him, he leaked the tape to Gawker to humiliate her. That blew up in everyone's faces; Gawker got sued into oblivion. (Peter Thiel, from The Paypal Mafia, financed the whole thing.)

It was basically the equivalent of some nobody loser trying to humiliate his ex-wife, then they make the mistake of giving the tape to someone that Elon Musk hates and Musk goes scorched earth on them.

Hulk making Gawker go out of business was an all time bit.
