Strange moments in your life you still can't explain

There's a theory (multiverse or simulation or something) that you never die in your existence. You die to the people around you in their existence, but whatever it was that killed you never happened in the new thread (or whatever you want to call it) and your life just continues on.

Top of my head I can think of 3 times I probably died.
You're onto something I think. Been thinking the same thing.

I was talking about that movie over 10 years ago, and I definitely believed it was real.
It's insane. How did so many people have the same memory of something that doesn't exist.

I'd also like to add this is beyond Mandela dying because it includes a specific actor in a movie named something that doesn't exist but everyone remembers it. FUCK!

Maybe it's a cover-up? :fighter_md:

Can you cease and desist a movie that already exists? The studio that released Kazam could have sued the one that released Shazam. Thus, they put all their resources into erasing and denying its existence out of legal repurcussions. But then again, that also would have happened with movies like A Bugs Life/Antz being too similar.

To me that's the only practical explanation for why so many people who didn't even grow up together all remember it. It did happen, but Sinbad is contractually obligated to pretend it didn't because the studio let some hack producer/director copycat an idea that was already in production?

Because I recall conversations with people WAY before this meme (or mandela) popularized. I can't imagine that movie reviewers wouldn't take their shots at the time, and I don't know of any old reviews resurfacing that mention the Sinbad one. It's more likely a case of people conflating Sinbad's other awful kiddie movies with this one, because Shaq was never a leading man again.

No I don't think it is because a lot of people had memories of owning the VHS and to my knowledge it has not turned up anywhere. There are cash rewards that exist for it if I'm not mistaken.

Wouldn't someone have a recorded copy though? What the fuck.

That's not even close to feasible. When you start acting like this movie was put out on VHS and they magically rounded them all up, now YOU sound insane. No, this movie was never on VHS that's precisely why there is so much confusion. This would be settled by the end of the first week if there were VHS tapes. My point was it never would have been released on VHS due to legal ramifications, and likely only played on TV. I recall specifically seeing it on those kiddie channels. Couldn't have been Disney since that's who made Kazam... Maybe it was all just getting off on the wrong foot. Our mistake.

You dont think anybody taped it if it was just on TV? If it came out in movies where are the previews in other VHS tapes which would have been common at the time? Nothing has turned up AFAIK. No commercials either?

But if it was played on TV someone would have taped it and have a copy somewhere is what I'm saying. I remember watching it on TV and never renting it or anything.

That happening would lend itself to the legend of it being "lost".... Unmarked tapes in the basement containing a few minutes of a scene makes it sound more plausible. Yet nobody has found any of it. We also overestimate how much people were tape recording on VHS back then. It wasn't as easy as hitting a button on your phone. It's not like everyone had a shelf full of Empties, maan. And it's not like this shitty genie movie was in high demand to be recorded. Barely anyone remembered it.

VHS tapes really only had previews for other VHS releases. Very rarely would you see a VHS open with a movie trailer for a film intended to promote the theatrical run. Unless it was a "behind the scenes" type peak which is more evergreen in terms of content. There was no preview on other VHS tapes because there was no VHS release.

No commercials either?

The only thing that comes close is a head shot of Sinbad dressed in middle eastern/genie costume that supposedly came from when he hosted some TV special for lawrence of arabia and people thought it was from the Shazam. But again, the lack of commercials and promotion leads to my theory of it being a legal issue cover-up.

Wouldn't it be in any film reviews at the time? Any printed media? There's no single trace of it at all? I suppose it's possible but it almost seems as unlikely as some more weird explanations.
I thought the picture of him in a turban etc. was from an April fool's prank.
I'm in no position to discount any explanation tbhwitcha.

True about VHS taping but I would tape fawkin hours and hours of TV movies and shows. To defend that theory though those tapes are all long gone in a landfill somewhere. It's a tough one.

If it was a straight to TV movie for kids no. I remember everything about the time I watched it too but I never saw it again after that so I think @DMAN is right about it being a cover up.

Which if that's the case that's already pretty fucked...Almost more unsettling than quantum reality because at least then there'd be a potentiality of them not being able to fuck with me like that somewhere.

That's what I said earlier. I've never seen a review from the time recirculate. And you just know movie reviewers would jump at the chance to take their shots at the copycat angle.

I thought the picture of him in a turban etc. was from an April fool's prank.

No, CollegeHumor also did a retarded skit about it with Sinbad pretending it was a scene from the movie and they added fake VHS artifacts that are so obviously fake, and still dumbass people cite it as if it's from the real movie. "I remember watching this exact scene as a child!!!" Do ya?

I actually have an older relative who owned multiple VCRs running recordings of every channel he could at the same time, 24 hours a day. Wall to wall VHS tapes. His bitch sold a bunch of them on eBay but I was able to secure a few boxes of first-run rare movies that nobody else has (at least in this quality) If you watch a VHS tape on a good VCR, the frame rate and picture quality is excellent and looks way better than it does when you digitize that same tape to a video file. It cuts a bunch of info off just like vinyl vs. CD.

Which if that's the case that's already pretty fucked...Almost more unsettling than quantum reality because at least then there'd be a potentiality of them not being able to fuck with me like that somewhere.

This is what I have been saying for years about the Mandela Effect. It's entirely possible for mega corporations to alter history and gaslight the general public. For fuck sake it happens all the time with the holocaust and history in general. The fact that we are fascinated about an unsuccessful flop of a made-for-TV children's movie rather than international crime and coercion is why they can do this to us with such ease.

It's a lot scarier to think they have a machine that can magically erase people's minds. Because the alternative is already true. They do control our memories through suggestion. That's why companies change logos, colors, and names. Speaking of said machine, has anyone seen the movie The Mandela Effect? Please go watch it and become as infuriated as I was when I saw it. I think I reviewed it on here before.
