Where does this cult still even exist? This idiot based his entire persona before he was a Christian rapper on being a sexist homophobe. Everything else that came later was industry directed beef records. No one is still listening to this asshole.
Yeah that’s what I’m wondering - while yes he did have a large following there when he first hit (he fit right in with Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock etc) and was seen as “controversial” for his lyrics about wanting to kill his wife and gays, drug use but that whole thing is long gone as it’s nowhere close to acceptable. You could say he was one of the poster child’s for “rape culture” on college campuses in the early 2000s but by that was over long ago. I haven’t heard the new song but I know it’s getting attention since he’s bringing “back” the slim shady persona which was the last time he was huge.

Does a person really need hard drugs in order to not give a fuck? He's rich and has a cult he could do way better than this and be fine.

I guess the fire inside really did die and expire at 30. I tried but not listening to this shit again
Can’t that be said for most rappers? Once they hit a certain age it’s almost embarrassing to still be trying to act like you did when you were at your biggest. A few have had long term success but it seems like it only takes a couple bad songs to go from good to wack. Snoop dogg’s music has been a joke for over 15 years and others just seem to be a shell of what they used to be.

Can anyone name a memorable Snopp Dogg song off an album besides Doggystyle? He always made shit music and was lucky to just bank in on his studio gangster persona.

He was able to at least be featured on other peoples songs or the remix etc which kept him going but solo wise it’s been shit since the 90s now I think about it. He’s probably done better money / hit wise being “featured” on songs (Like the ones from Dr Dre’s The Chronic 2001 etc)

What is the average shelf life for a rapper? Seems to be not be that long compared to other genres. Yes you’ve got guys like Kanye, Jay-Z but even 5 years to even be rare. Look at guys like Nas who had great albums in the 90s then nothing really of note since. When’s the last time Ludacris had a hit? Lil Wayne had a run there in the mid to late 2000s, 50 cent had a couple years, Outlast stopped making music, etc.

LL Cool J had a good run, late 80s to early 2000s, what other good runs we got back there, Earl?

I’d say its pretty equal to other genres. Look at rock. How long did most bands stay good for? Beatles lasted 10 years. Stones were only good for 10 years. Pink Floyd, 10 years. Genesis, 10 years. Yes, 10 years. Black Sabbath? A little under 10 years.

In contrast Outkast lasted 7-9 years, Dr Dre 7 years, 2pac was 6 years, Wu Tang for about 7 years, Three 6 Mafia was like 10 years.

Saw Three 6 Mafia live not too long ago and it was surprisingly a fun show. I was also drunk so that might have had something to do with it.

I more mean the majority, while those are big names there seems to be much more guys that come and go - like 2 or 3 songs then gone. Also while you can say those rock bands only had 10 or so good years can they still go out and tour to large venues? Rock at least some acts (for now) can still play large venues while rappers it’s small theaters after their prime couple years.

Like for example I just posted how Jennifer Lopez had to cancel her entire 31 date concert tour that was going to be large arenas because of low ticket sales. Not too often do you hear rock acts (even older olds) book large venues only to cancel after poor sales. Well except Genesis when they toured for “Calling All Stations” and the US part didn’t happen due to sales ( Sorry Ray!)

Well i would say its about rap becoming another offshoot of pop. You have these people like Roddy Rich or YNW Melly or Rod Wave who are complete one hit wonders because they make Poprap shlock one hit wonders made for easy consumption. However rap artists just aren’t very creative. If I listen to an album from 2018 then 2024 it sounds the exact same. If it DOES sound different its not any innovation but just following the trends of the time (2018 would be like a piano beat and then 2024 has some stupid jersey club beat but its all the same)
Also while you can say those rock bands only had 10 or so good years can they still go out and tour to large venues? Rock at least some acts (for now) can still play large venues while rappers it’s small theaters after their prime couple years.
Well i’m talking about the quality of their output. Sure, the Stones put out music but it’s shit. And they play arenas but they play shit from those good 10 years. I think what shows the quality of rappers isn’t the size of their sets but how it’s set up. If i go see a rock band theres only one opener. The last rap concert I went to had 3-4 openers and I didn’t know any of them. Probably because they couldn’t just find one good guy to be the opener.

Rap has also gotten a reputation for just being a shit genre live. So many of them will just go on stage with a DJ and yell over a backing track and do half a song and then rush onto the next.

Getting back to Eminem, he's gotten a reputation for being a shitty live performer too which is why he rarely ever tours and when he does people say he just lip-synchs through most of his set. Had a fried who went to see him after Recovery came out and they both said even being one of his favorite artists it was one of the most disappointing he's ever seen.
