I honestly believe they are that stupid and yes, funded his suit with their legal funds. If they consulted their lawyers on the worthiness of his case, it was probably to a female lawyer who 'reasoned' with her emotions and allowed it through.

But I doubt they even asked their lawyer anyway. It's the Grievance Committee who grants the loan. And who was on the committee? Cat Rambo, someone who hates us and felt personally injured by the trolls. Oh.. she has a grievance alright. So of course the case would be greenlit.

They no doubt decided the case had merit because it satisfied qualification #3:

"To fund or contribute to the funding of court actions brought by others in issues which are of importance to SFWA’s members and the business of writing and which may help to raise SFWA’s profile as a pro-active writers’ organization."

The beauty of their stupidity is that we could ostensibly get their charity status taken from them for this violation lol.

Pat got the money to file his frivolous suit because we uhhhfended two elitist arrogant white women - ex-President Cat Rambo and President (at the time) Mary Robinette-Kowal. They felt personally attacked, wanted revenge on a personal level, and likely influenced the Grievance Committee through emotional compliance.

Essentially presenting the argument as having only two outcomes - stand by innocent writers who did nothing wrong, or stand by evil Nazi incel trolls. Framing the narrative in such an emotional way that any logical counterpoint - okay the trolls are shitty people but suing anonymous internet trolls is a fruitless endeavor - would face shame and exclusion from the group. It's easy to get you to vote my way if I hold a proverbial gun to your head.

We haven't attacked any POC authors of the SFWA. What happened was a tale that's happened many times before - arrogant power-hungry whites achieve power, then seek to serve themselves first and foremost. The CEO lays off 20% of workers and gives themselves a nice eight-figure bonus, and the SFWA Presidents use community money to chase shadows that "disrespected" them.

It was too crazy to even take serious.

Didn't like the guy but there was plenty comedy to mine everyday.

Remember covfefe?
I couldn't give a shit about him personally. Everyone in politics is a self-interested dirtbag. He was too just minus the filter and facade. But seeing the president of the United States calling rivals losers etc on twitter, and doing it with a comic timing that most stand-ups could only dream of (not to mention a verbal creativity/cruelty that any schoolyard bully would be proud of), was just hilarious.

Yes but white women were attacked. And you know white women, in 2021, are the world's most oppressed group. Just ask them!

The reality of this lawsuit - four toxic feminists (Patrick, Paul, Cat, Mary) who are happy to spend $120,000 because they're so furious that we didn't like a book. A book about a 64% female crew spaceship where all the crewmembers (except one token LGBT character) are young, fit, horny, single, on birth control, and constantly sexing the lucky few men aboard.

Perverted, narcissistic fantasies of a sexually unsatisfied white man who cries and lies like a woman to project his space reverse-gangbang schlock as some beacon of diversity that must be protected at all costs. Paul read the In the Black and enjoyed it (I liked the part where da gurls were young) while I doubt Cat nor Mary read a single chapter of this horribly written, sexist novel. That they've generously donated $120k to defend from internet criticism.

Aww, looks like my little niece, my guy’s niece actually. I’m the guncle-in-law. If anybody hurt her, I would kill them with my bare hands without a second thought. That’s why I don’t understand pedos or daughter abandoners like Pat. What is life if it’s not about making things better for the next generation and protecting them until they’re old enough to enjoy it?

Because -- I mean, I get it when people say they "hate" kids because they're loud, messy, dumb, whatever -- but people who truly have hatred for kids, people who tolerate abuse of children, are deeply damaged and resent them for their "privilege" of having innocence and lacking responsibility. They're jealous to the point of mental illness.

That's why Rick regards his enemies as "infant baby child"; he's sick and he thinks of children as "inferior". He's sick.

This is also what I believed happened, the SFWA has had many issues with people review bombing their books either from being a member of the SFWA which has defended multiple members guilty of child abuse or from being assholes on social media. They’ve had Pat and others in panels about how to “deal” with trolls and negative internet reaction to their group and individual behavior. Pat started this suit and got the SFWA involved because they felt this could be a benefit to ALL their writers. It also explains why Pat doesn’t think he owes any money since he hasn’t spent a penny on legal fees. He thinks he’s a special boy and his suit doesn’t apply to the usual SFWA rules related to lawsuits.
