It’s very complicated, me and my brother own the family house, my sister doesn’t get a share because she’s a mentally unwell NEET who bled our parents dry before they died, but in being written out of the will, we were compelled to let her live there rent free, but she doesn’t make enough to pay the bills so I do. My brother says “fuck her” and doesn’t contribute anything.
What’s the options?
Let her trash the place where nothing is being paid for, I don’t know how that would play out but presumably becomes my problem anyway.
Kick her out and sell it because the arrangement isn’t enforceable and we just own it together as brothers, but then I’ve made my sister homeless or she turns up at my apartment and I need to live with her.
I tried living there rent free too but she’s insufferable and makes life not worth living.

I’ve been able to buy two houses in my life and my fiance is about to be making over $200k. Together we’ll be close to half a mil per year. One of the properties is currently rented. I am under thirty and have almost half a million in the bank. I think I’m doing just fine and probably much better than you were doing at your age.
Is there a squeeze now? Yeah but that’s what delayed gratification is all about. Real estate is a hedge against all this inflation and it’s not the only thing I’m invested in. At the end of the day, if you can make the payments at the end of the month, who cares? Debt is the path to wealth and access to credit is crucial.
Also like @NoBacon sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the people you love. It’s part of life and honestly something to be proud of.
And yes, the economy is absolutely bad for normal people. You have to be delusional to believe that things are great now. Track the cost of housing, healthcare, retirement and education over the last five decades and tell me that’s good and normal.

Yeah, but at the same time on paper I own two properties, one outright with my brother, and I make enough money to pay for two adults (including myself) to live in two properties without getting into any debt at all (besides my mortgage) - and I’m doing the right thing morally.
