I got to be part of a huge tech project a few years back; this was pre-pandemic in SoCal, so office life was still thriving and we leased an amazing building to draw in top-tier people.

Anyway, we needed a handful of grunt workers to stress test the hardware we developed – very repetitive, unskilled work. For about a week, there were these dregs sprinkled amongst this sea of elite talent. One girl had short pink hair, was vegan, and wore ill fitting clothes for her chubby frame. One was a sassy negress, barely containing her excitement at the fact Juneteenth would soon be an official holiday. One ethnically ambiguous Zoomer girl was particularly out of place, loud, and annoying though, and the trigger for this memory. After visiting our very busy break room, I came upon her yapping openly in a video call, where she exclaimed her chicken Caesar salad was ”Straight gas." This happened, and I've never been the same since.
