You did the right thing leaving them. Ma's gotta work. The kits are just really curious about people. Like I said, there were those ones on the golf course that would walk right over to people and sniff around their feet and bite their pantlegs and shit and the mom would just lay in the sand watching.

They're also in town here all the time in the spring and summer because they like to keep their babies around people because other predators won't come around people.
all good points. I just hope that was the mom, they seemed pretty desperate for help, as soon as I walked around the bend they came running out of the woods and right up to us. I also didn't want to bring them to the ranger station and hear "thanks asshole, here's a $1,000 fine and we're calling the police"

We got coyotes (and their number is growing with ppl becoming more and more shutin) and some nights they congregate behind the strip plaza dumper and howl into the moonlight...and you can hear it for miles. Creepy shit (but Im here when it happens mostly and you funsters keep me company).

I'm a ridiculously light sleeper and I can tune out coyotes real easy from hearing them almost every night growing up. Even when I lived right in the middle of town for a while I could still hear them sometimes if I was outside. They're everywhere.

They're like fucking ghosts too. I was deep in some thick woods one time and all the birds went quiet. I kept thinking I was seeing something moving out of the corner of my eye, I'd look, wouldn't see anything, and then it'd happen again. Finally, after like 10 times of probably looking straight at the thing, I saw a coyote blending in with everything perfectly. I stopped and had a smoke and while I was standing there, I noticed another one, then another one, then another one, then another one. They kind of congregated and all fucked off together totally silently. There were four of them probably doing laps around me for a good while and I never heard anything but my own footsteps.

Their stealth really makes dogs look like clumsy, graceless oafs in comparison...I see one or two about every 6 months, and ALWAYS during dawn, sometimes crossing the street and acting like it dont see me seeing him, but the moment I turn my head: their gait speeds up, lol.

what part of the country do you live? i used to see them all the time when i lived in LA, had a pack of coyotes try to sneak up on me walking my pug. I would hear them at night fighting or attacking stupid people's poor pets...
I live back on the east coast now and the eastern Coyote is almost exclusively coy-wolves. basically half wolf hybrid, much bigger than the western coyotes you'd see in SoCal. I've only seen them here once in ten years tho.
