Ehhh kids these days, huh? Curly hair would get you beaten up when I was at school. Now they all gotta have that stupid haircut or they'll be in professional counseling over it. If your dad didn't drive a pickup you were bullied at my school. We took our lumps and passed it on to the next year of kids, heh heh heh. Ahhhh what do I know? I married Magilla Gorilla.

I know it’s probably already said but the whole “being a man is toxic” nonsense that’s being pushed on society. Now the phrase “man up” or “be a man” is considered wrong which I can see is really fucking up young people. I remember when I was a kid in elementary school (early 90s) if someone was picking on you or hurting you - they told you to stand up for yourself / hit back / etc which is an important part of growing up to learn to stand up for yourself. It was typical “boys will be boys” etc but I still remember punching a bully who was bigger than me and he stopped fucking with me and it was seen as “that fat bully had it coming” - now I hear if any kind of fighting like that happen at school they call the police and everyone gets in big trouble - even if you were defending yourself.

Back in my day niggers loved anime, but I vividly recall anime being much cooler back in the day. A lot more "gritty" action shit, I can't imagine the fruity shit of today is very popular with the Urban Youth.
It was OK to be into stuff like Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Karas and Akira, but Naruto or Sailor Moon would rightfully get you bullied.

Anime comes first to my mind. There were a couple kids in my school who were really into anime and they were the biggest outcasts by far even more than the goth kids and the kids in the gay-straight alliance. Fast forward to 2024 and every OF whore is wearing slutty anime costumes.

I would also say comic books/cape shit in general. If you look at old pics of comic cons it's like exclusively nerdy looking dudes, definitely no hot chicks in slutty costumes like now.

I founded an anime club in the 1980s. It was basically 90% nerdy teens, and skewed quite young; a lot of us were 14 or younger. The other 10% were these dudes in their 40s who invariably lived with their mothers, who mysteriously had no life outside of anime. No wife, no kids, no adult friends. Many of them were also furries.

It wasn't until I was in my 30s that I realized I was probably hanging out with pedophiles every weekend. Thank God I looked like I was 20 years old when I was 14. IE, I managed to avoid getting molested somehow.

The dude who brought Akira to America, he showed up at my anime club and there was a 14yo girl in our club who claimed that she fucked him.

She was one of those Amy Schumer types who tells a lot of stories, so God only knows if it was true. She was always trying to get attention from all the other guys in the club (she was the only girl) but even though we were all virgins, the idea of losing our virginity to some girl that appeared to be a raging whore was a bridge too far. Also, she was fat and homely.

Whenever I drive by the skatepark in my town jow it's a bunch of kids on fucking scooters. Literally if you showed up with anything but a skateboard when I was a kid you got beat up.

TBF, you would also get beat up for:

* wearing a Sex Pistols shirt instead of a Suicidal Tendencies shirt

* not keeping up to date with Nazi skinhead bands (can't even count how many Skrewdriver shirts I've seen)

* getting your hair cut at Supercuts

* being too wealthy

* being too poor

* just for the hell of it

Coding. Anything computer-related, really. It was the realm of virgin nerds.

1000% lol

I learned how to type when I was seven, and because I was peak poor, I was making my own videogames by the age of 13, simply because I had no money.

I majored in art in college, and I kept all of my computer science shit on the DL, because knowing how to write code was basically the most embarassing thing you could possibly do. Like, you could literally walk around with a necklace of dildos and it would be less embarassing.

My coding hero was Michael Abrash. Another dude who loved him was John Carmack, and Carmack wound up bringing Abrash to nearly every company that he worked for.

Basically, we wouldn't have the XBox or 3D shooters if it wasn't for Michael Abrash, but I couldn't tell anyone I know about my obsession with his stuff, because I literally knew zero people who knew how to write code.
