I bought a 3 bed 3 years ago on a 5 year fixed term. Best financial choice I ever made and worth every penny for not having to put up woth shitty landlords any more. I was lucky in that I've worked from home for 10+ years and can rely on that continuing, so I bought rural. There are still plenty of shops and services around and I make an effort to buy everything locally because fuck Bezos maaaaaan.
I'm gonna be building rural and I cannot wait to get the fuck out of the city

You're going to miss the city. You won't be able to go eat at a Mongolian restaurant then go to see the Russian Ballet when you're living in the middle of nowhere. Or rub elbows with the upper crust of humanity. Those academically and culturally enriched won't be living in Tumbleweed Country.

It has its ups and downs. Yeah it's your house but it's also a money pit with shit breaking all the time or needing maintenance. Some faggot charged me $600 for him to spend 10 seconds feeding a fallen tree into his chipper (wassat?). What a racket. Luckily some hippies took away most of the next one.
You'll get fucked if you're not semi handy. I needed the top half of my chimney removed before my solar panels went up. 3ft above roof 8ft in the attic. Quoted me 4 grand to rip it out and patch it. A to Z took me 4 hours. Where you get 4 grand from is beyond me.

You could have taken 30 minutes with a handsaw and cut it into somewhat manageable pieces and then hauled em to the front of the house with a free sign on them. FREE WOOD INQUIRE WITHIN

This is definitely a perk of rural life. You can guarantee any old shite you stick outside with a "free to good home" sign will be gone in a couple of hours. If you did that in the city with anything larger than a dustbin the Council would come knocking and tell you to move it.

I had some properties & cashed-in too early, assuming I'd do the same again... not a big problem - it's like energy management while flying an aircraft; you want to lose most of it by the time you're back on/in the ground

Next time put an ad for free firewood on Craigslist. I was renting a house and a medium size tree came down in the backyard. I placed the CL ad and in no time a bulldyke with a pickup truck and chainsaw went to town on that tree. Problem solved!

Edited to add: I just reread your post and saw you got hippies to take the next one. Bravo!

Unless you're looking to get in on the ground floor gentrifying a ghetto area it's pretty much over for homeowning for a ham and egger like me. Whenever I finally give up on life I'm just going to buy 40 acres with a lot of trees and a river or a decent creek running through it. I'll probably live on canned food for a year before I kill myself.

Homeownership is way overrated. I "own" a home and am a virtual slave to it. I owe the kikes aka the banks indefinitely, a few missed payments and I'm out on the streets, equity be damned! Landlords are greedy and all but when you rent, you pay rent and utilities and that's it. Here I deal with variables like repairs, taxes, homo insurance, etc. If you are single or didn't get in years ago it's a losing proposition. Sinks be damned, it's no fun. It was probably the worst decision I've ever made. My stress level skyrocketed. I'm living like Nana, using a couple of rooms in a big ass place that I have to heat/cool. It's just stupid.

I'm planning on selling within the next year or so and never buying again. Fuck the kikes and their 30-year mortgage scheme.
