Frank’s character name in this was “Hack Stone”

I watched his documentary and they put him in low budget direct to video action movies in hopes seeing the name STALLONE in big letters on the box at the video store would make people rent it thinking it’s a new Sylvester Stallone movie only to get home and realize it’s a Frank movie. You know they tricked a lot of people in renting his movies

Sly is really good in the first two Creed movies too. I like Rocky as the mentor like we saw in 5, but with a more receptive pupil.

I love this movie, it's a love letter to slapstick 30's screwball comedies. So of course it bombed worse than my Genesis album.

I liked Demolition Man. It's not one of his best, but far from his worst.

The cynicism shown in that film of what the future could be like was so prescient it's confounding.

And no, I won't tell you how to use the three shells.

If not for Rocky IV we'd all be speaking Russian.

I haven't seen the new cut yet, but I'll get to it. Gosia will have to suffer through it with me though.

I wanna see the arm wrestling movie

No you don't.

Last Action Hero is super underrated too.

No, it's not.

Outside of T2 and The Last Action Hero, the only other 90s film any good is True Lies. Stallone has several in the 90s that were decent enough.

When you're right, you're right. The 4K is supposed to land this year and I don't care if I have to import it, I've waited a long time to own that movie in a decent version.

Cobra was garbage

Yes it is.

Sly is really good in the first two Creed movies too. I like Rocky as the mentor like we saw in 5, but with a more receptive pupil.

Creed was admittedly fan fiction that actually got greenlit - but it was VURRY GOOD fan fiction. I won't knock the first two at all, they resonated with me because of Rocky's B plot. III looked so stupid, I couldn't watch it (and no, it has nothing to do with Michael B. Jordan, kid is solid, the trailer did nothing for me).

And for the love of God, fellas, the answer up Stallones worst movie is the one he directed and DIDN'T star in - "Staying Alive".

What does Arnold really have beyond the ones I mentioned? Eraser? The 6th Day? Junior? Kindergarten Cop? Red Heat? Twins? I never got the appeal of Total Recall. Gave it one watch and was meh through the whole thing. Running Man stinks.

Total Recall was Arnold in a PK Dick adaptation. The very idea is absurd. They'd probably cast someone like Andrew Garfield to play the role these days. They play it too safe. No one like Arnold would ever get near a script like that again. Paul Verhoeven is also a genius.

The Running Man was a Stephen King adapation. Again, an absurd casting choice. Hollywood would never try this again. Not the first dystopian bloodsport movie, but the reality show aspect was ahead of its time.

In the same introduction King describes Ben Richards as "scrawny" and "pre-tubercular". He observes that Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played Ben Richards in the film adaptation of The Running Man, portrayed the character very differently than he wrote about him in the book, saying that Richards (in the book) was "as far away from the Arnold Schwarzenegger character in the movie as you can get."[2]: 4  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Running_Man_(novel)

I like that he had a cameo in Staying Alive bumping into Travolta. I give Stallone credit for trying to get behind the camera as soon as possible (following Clint Eastwood) since he figured he would have a short career as a star since he wasn’t supposed to be one in the first place. There’s a documentary on him in the editing bay for Rocky 4 that’s interesting to see him going through the movie and making changes. I was in Creed 1 & 2 and it was great to see him in between takes because he’s very animated and passionate about film making.

I watch Cop Land every now and then because Fat Stallone was great - was actually a risk for him to play a loser type character and not the big action star. I reminder when the first Batman movie came out Sly said this would be the start of the end for big muscle action heroes since now you can just put a suit of muscles on an actor. He was right.

You forget that even though Arnold was an “action movie” guy the majority of his biggest works were science fiction (Terminator, Predator, Running Man, Total Recall, etc) since the 80s had a huge boom of science fiction movies being critically and financially successful. Right place - right time for Arnold.

Even though Rambo 4 was a solid way to end, I was actually excited for Rambo 5. Rambo going up against the Cartel should've been awesome. Instead the movie was boring as fuck besides the last 15 minutes. It's been so long since I've seen 3 I can't remember anything about it.

Still, Rambo 5 is far from one of the worst he's done.
Rambo 3 was alright. It's when he really starting juicing his face off, Cupster.

I really tried to give it a fair chance, funster. I probably would've liked it more with a different lead, or maybe a different director. Cronenberg was originally going to direct it.

I like really well written and acted sci fi, but Arnold is such a fucking cornball outside of his core legacy films.

Sly was the best part of those movies. 3rd one sucked ass
I've only watched clips from the first of those rascal movies, and he's the only one that can act in it. The peanut head rascal playing Creed's son stinks, with his suction cup purple lips.

He directed Rocky 2, right? And Paradise Alley? So he had experience. But I absolutely hate Staying Alive, even if he did put some of his own experiences in it.

I hate Harry Knowles, but back in the day, Stallone answered questions there for a time, and his answers were utterly compelling. He's a super creative type, loves the concept of The Punisher and wanted to make the movie for it, and even considered a Death Wish remake that the fans talked him out of.

Wish they did the same for Bruce Willis.

Cronenberg left when the studio cast Richard Dreyfuss. He made the right choice.

They took risks in casting and blending genres back then. Terminator and Predator were basically slashers with a sci-fi motif. What if Michael Myers was a robot, or an alien?

In Rome, Italy, during the release of Piranha II: The Spawning (1982), director Cameron fell ill and had a dream about a metallic torso holding kitchen knives dragging itself from an explosion.[6] Inspired by director John Carpenter, who had made the slasher film Halloween (1978) on a low budget, Cameron used the dream as a "launching pad" to write a slasher-style film.[7] Cameron's agent disliked the early concept of the horror film and requested that he work on something else. After this, Cameron dismissed his agent.[8]

Honestly a harder question is the best Stallone movie. You’re forced to pick between Rocky 1 and Rambo First Blood. Every other movie this guy is in is a piece of shit.
Rocky 1 is easily his best film, Suester. It's before all his plastic surgery and steroids. And he gave the most believable performance of his career.

But that's not to say First Blood isn't his 2nd best. It's funny how it's a relatively slow film bar a few high points, but still holds your attention all the way through.

So I'm the only one that has seen that piece of shit Avenging Angelo here?
I tried, I tapped out after 20 minutes. That was the real low point of his career - pretty much had to do a new Rocky and Rambo just to get his movies back in theaters. Angelo and the movie D-Tox were both direct to video.

Yes, wrote and directed Rocky 2 and Paradise Alley (that featured Terry Funk!) and wrote FIST. From what I’ve read he’s written other scripts that couldn’t get financing / development hell so he’s a guy that is always working on something related to film. I remember various projects over the years he would be involved with that didn’t get off the ground or ones he wrote that due to his age would go to a younger actor (Jason Statham’s movie “Homefront” Stallone wrote years ago)

He's an idea guy mainly, and not a terrible actor when he's really committed to the role.

Rocky was his baby through and through, wrote it and wouldn't sell it unless he starred.

First Blood was a complete mess in its original cut, as John Rambo talked CONSTANTLY. He suggested to the producers to make him a mostly silent protagonist, with footage of his commander filling in the void of who he is instead of John himself. So they edited a lot of his dialogue out and saved that picture.

Also, if any of you fellas haven't, watch the Expendables Directors Cut just so you can see the documentary "Inferno", which is him directing that film. I came away even more impressed by the guy - he's a cunt, but he's a creative one. I respect it.
