What are some thing you don’t get because you’re too young?

I want to hear from @RobertMewler this thread needs a female perspective
Hi. I read through the thread and a lot of the answers have to do with pop culture references. I hate to disappoint but both older and younger people have interests in shows I may not resonate with yet I can see why they'd be drawn to them (boredom, curiosity, escapism, etc.). Human nature is essentially the same no matter the generation. Caring about not "getting" a reference seems like such a waste of energy to me.

Well obviously I get the references. Haha, Homer and Gerald Ford are good friends because they’re both clumsy and like football! But Gerald Ford was President almost 50 years ago. I can get it but not in a way where i’d find humor in it, if that makes sense.
Yeah, all us kids that grew up in the 90's were all hip to the latest Gerald fucking Ford references. That's why we love da show; all those Gerald Ford references that really hit home.

Nigga, Google when he was President and do the math. This is why faggots only groom retards.

I love you wrinkly dummies who think young is an insult. You get Simpsons references, I wake up and look at a full head of hair in the mirror. I win, faggot.

This is what I mean. I would say this exact comment to someone older when I was 20, and not understand how it makes me sound like a woman. "I might be stupid, But at least I'm prettier than you"

I like to think about how you younger folks only get to watch the censored sanitized versions of a reality we lived. Like there isn't any show on a streaming app that isn't edited to shit in some way. Simpsons in HD crops out like 30% of the square shaped picture to make it look widescreen, and they also did some kinda lame filter to increase contrast and it looks like shit.

Plus there are plenty of movies where they switch out scenes, use alternate takes, cut out lines, etc. And nobody new would ever know the difference. I wouldn't blame you for thinking something is gay when you might be watching table scraps. It's like a real mandela effect!!

A friend of mine told me that you can just download the series in either 360 or 480 from The Bay of Pirates or whatever it's called. It's better than how retarded it looks on Disney+.

Nanas references even when da show was still on air
Anthony took a photo with Groucho Marx. Groucho was born in 1890. Anthony and Opie were practically two full generations removed from half or most of their audience. Their tenure at WAAF was so hilarious behind the scenes because management constantly pestered them to "act young" because they wanted the 18-34 demographic. Children of the 80s. The audience thought that they were two pot smoking kids in their 20s (late 20s, why?). Then they would show up at events and be embarrassed that they were twice the ages of everyone else. Stern, Greaseman, and lots of others went through the same scenario as well. Where they would show up to events and fans would be mystified that some anorexic jew geeky pelican was the "wacky shock jock".

The b-b-b-b-boys would constantly make references to shows that no one in the audience would have possibly heard of unless they were old farts like O&A. Brady Bunch, I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners. The Honeymooners went off air in 1956 yet it probably got more mentions than The Sopranos on O&A. Someone found the photos on this site and posted them, as management would always tell the jocks to use press photos to make them seem younger. So the old rock jocks would use photos of themselves at age 20 despite being in their 50s and 60s. They were using 40-year-old photos. So O&A sarcastically used their baby pictures in their press photos to mock the other jocks with their 40-year-old photos.

One time either Dave Douglass or Bruce Mittman made them attend a meeting where they were forced to "visualize what they thought the average listener looked like". So they had to brainstorm in front of management. "White, male, blue collar, maybe white collar, educated, younger". Then they were told to go purchase a bunch of magazines from a local store, and try to find photos in advertisements or posters of what that "average listener" looked like, and then hang them up in the studio. So that they would always have an image of the listener like they were broadcasting right to them. And Opie and Anthony got in trouble because they printed up pictures of John Wayne Gacy and other serial killers and plastered them around the studio with the caption "Our Listeners" or "Average Listener".

But that was part of the charm of O&A. They weren't trying to appeal to anyone but themselves. Management and the audience just had to accept whatever O&A wanted to do. Including Honeymooners references over contemporary shows. And acting like retards behind the scenes and not taking management seriously.

Manual transmission, anyone who drives stick is a try hard faggot like Patrick
that's an odd one for me, 'cus in most of the world a manual (stick shift(?)) is just the norm & everyone just knows how to drive, there are no special bragging rights, it's just assumed you can drive one & unless you're disabled then it's assumed you can drive a manual... you take your drivig test in a manual.

Women have “strict” dress codes of no shoulders showing
I’m all about women not showing their shoulders because so many of them have armpit vaginas and it apparently has nothing to do with weight because I know tons of women who are <110 lbs and still have them. It’s fucking weird.

I don’t have any good answers for you on connecting with older stuff aside from don’t waste your time on things you don’t care for or enjoy. I love those years of the Simpsons but it’s not like I’m sitting around and shoehorning it into everyday conversations. I couldn’t care less if someone, anyone, didn’t get a random reference and I’m pretty sure no one else does either.

So just relax my man

Yeah thats my entire point. The Simpsons isn’t special because I grew up in a time where everything was influenced by it. All of the supposedly “golden age” seasons are filled with references I don’t get because I wasn’t born 20 years ago. So when anyone tells me “Bro the Simpsons is one of the best shows ever!” i can just tell they’re an oldhead.

maybe someone's already said this, but most of those tremendous references are for people way older than the kids that were watching it. I watched it and I was like 3 or 4 but it's jokes about Grand Funk and shit.

I’m being an autistic faggot here but it always irks me when people leave out the first season when talking about classic Simpsons. I get that it’s very different to what came later and Homer was a totally different character but there are still so many great episodes in there.

I’d rather watch any episode from the first season than any of the shite they’ve been pumping out for the last 20 years.
I love the first season, still funny and honestly probably the most charming/heartfelt.

For any office fans this happened recently (bbc iplayer), they cut out an entire scene where Tim and Gareth are forced to work together for a team building exercise. The main joke was Tim getting raging that Gareth was asking autistic questions, and the punchline was the farmer's gay to which Gareth replies "well he shouldn't be around animals".
The whole scene fucking cut :fighter_sm:

Seasons 2 - 10 of the Simpsons is some of the best TV ever made.

My answer would probably be Only Fools and Horses.
Whats not to "get" about only fools if you are from the UK? Some of it is of it's time and dated but some holds up very well. I can like some comedy made well before I was born even overlooking if I don't fully understand the references o

I remember when mobile phones came in as standard use when I was about 13 so I never really had a world before where I would have to make plans and hope it worked out. I just can't imagine how any of life really worked out pre phone and Internet now. It's so engraved in society

Really? I guess they have also cut the Asian guy and Brent saying "of no I thought you were the other one" bit then? Both very funny moments
