A state court just convicted a former president of federal crimes? So the blacks weren't completely lying this entire time about this type of bullshit?

Which crimes were federal?
"Mr. Trump’s lawyers are expected to argue that Mr. Bragg inappropriately stretched the state election law — a convoluted one, at that — to cover a federal campaign. And they could claim that the false records law itself does not apply to Mr. Trump’s case." -NY Times

They got around the statue of limitations by tying it to a federal election which in that case should be tried in federal court. Idk my dad isn't a judge tho.

Well see on appeal then in 4 years. From what ive stumbled upon NY has a law that the SOL is tolled while someone is living out of state. I mean sounds like gamesmanship to me if that's the case. Maybe it can get kicked up to a higher court to rule that law unconstitutional.

Not a lawyer

That makes no sense (his argument). Trump wasn’t being charged for a federal or state election crime. He was being charged with a felony in NY state. Part of that felony (Falsifying business records) is that there had to be an underlying crime he intended to hide. The underlying crime is the state/federal election law. So that argument just seems really muddy.

It's an appeal hail Mary. Of course it's going to be muddy.
