The Lord of the Rings movies would've been much better without this

- The ents.

- Gimli as comedic relief. In the books he's not nearly as silly and clumsy as in the movies.

- That green dead army that just flows over everyone like water. Nice way to instantly destroy all tension in the battle, stupid.

- Merry and Pippin. Two little cutesy faggots hijacking every potentially scary or tense scene they're in.

- Frodo's modern edgy facial expressions

You mean the most powerful evil entity in Middle Earth should not be defeated by dwarf tossing and Marvel Movie level quips?
I like the ents but I kind of get the nitpicks, it was the original marvel movie.
All three movies suck. They are for dweebs and faggots.

The comedic relief from the Hobbits makes more sense than from a dwarf. Either way you're right there was entirely too much comedic relief in the movies, it added nothing.

I'm not sure you can do a trilogy of 3hour+ films and not require some bits of comedy in there to break up the tension. They made it work. I must concur that Gimli was a bit too corny at times. Merry and Pippin added some necessary chaos to counter the skill and confidence of group leaders/expert warriors Aragorn and Legolas, wouldn't you say? Hmmm?

I thought Gimli was alright in the first movie, a little too goofy in the second one, and I don’t really remember him doing much in the third. I don’t have a problem with Merry and Pippin being comic relief. That was kind of their purpose. And they both mellowed out a lot by the third one when they had gone through some shit.

My biggest problem was twink Legolas being so unstoppable. He was capable in the books but the shield sliding and elephant-thing slaying shit was too much.

The pirate ghosts were really lame and anti-climactic. I don’t remember it being quite like that in the book, but who knows
In the books they use the corsair ships to gather up regular, alive soldiers from the rest of Gondor and brought them up as reinforcements in the nick of time. The Fairy detergent wave of ghosts cleaning up the city is easily the worst deviation, but it would be pretty hard to follow the book storyline and keep a sense of pacing in the big battle scene.

They were the comic relief in the books though, having the most quippy lines. Obviously not as in-your-face and low brow as the movies, as the books were written by a stuffy English professor 70 years ago.

It got exponentially worse over the course of the movies, as is the case with most of its worst elements that would really show themselves in the genuinely bad Hobbit movies (like overuse of cgi). It's why I've grown to like the first movie the most over time. It's not as excessive and indulgent as the later ones.
