Just the fact that - as she's recording this - she's hearing about pepperoni, black children and basements, arsons...and is just completely confused by all of it.

Nice, pretty midwestern girl, her man in bed with her, both of them gotta get up for work tomorrow and she's over there, hearing the most wild shit that she can't even wrap her head around...

“With a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. Always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woollen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he’ll never know.”
― Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

...and I've only just now realised why Pat insists on using his middle initial.

Yeah but they are retarded, Midwestern filth. Why would a "superior officer" be saying that to a subordinate?
also I'm sure I heard 'never put me in cuffs again!' around the same point, they probably assumed it was another officer 'cus not many people get away with shouting at cops like that... I have mixed feeling about it; for one it's just words so ok, but allowing someone who sounds like such a maniac (& gun owner) to go about his business seems a bit wrong.

People say UK cops are soft, but when I was swatted it was only my politeness saving me from a face full of pavement. I gave them some good sarcasm once things'd calmed sown, but Rick sounds like a fucking nutcase.
