I don't totally disagree, but I do think that America would be better off if most kids did soccer early on, then added wrestling/grappling... instead of football which will fuck up your quality of life in your 30s and 40s. The muscle and organ development, and endurance gains from soccer are great and useful for a transition into military service (for a healthy society/nation) compared to retarded American football.

I coached youth soccer for a while. My biggest complaint was dealing with the parents. If every black kid that plays AAU basketball switched to soccer no one would want to coach

It's a insecurity of Americans. It's by far the richest and biggest sport and doesn't even need to be a major sport in the US or China to achieve that. It's already a billion dollar tv deal in the US alone just for premier league rights.

I can't think of any other sport anywhere getting big TV deals like that outside it's target market. NFL gives away rights on the UK to try and grow the game but it'll never be anything more than a novelty sport here.

I was a chronic unatheletic so I was never involved in organized sports but I liked playing soccer because to me it was just about kicking balls around.

Add in the champions league, European championship, world cup and Italian, French. Spanish rights and it's a massively bigger sport it's just so much bigger with more than one competition and rights to buy it's diluted to a degree. It's not even close and that's not included the Saudi money.

The next world cup is in the US, Canada and Mexico and that will only make even more money.

I have never once heard anyone mention a NFL game in person. You might get the odd "yee haw cowboy" media type coverage when the NFL is in town but essentially that's it's own little bubble. Nobody gives a fuck.

There's a artificial vibe around most US soccer fans although I think as time goes on that will change. It's already in average having 22k fans at per game in the MLS and that's for pretty low level quality with most those people also having European sides they follow.


The last world cup in the US was in 1994 and it's massively bigger in the US compared to then. 2026 world cup will just grow it even more.
