I love, LOVE SC's quarterback. They barely lost to Alabama, and at this point I'd almost rather see them in over Bama just to see how they do against better competition. That team is a pain in the ass.
They had those awkward early losses, which are a lot to overlook. They peaked too late. Right now, today, I think they'd be favored over everyone they lost to.

I have to believe the first team to be totally exposed as a pretender will be Notre Dame, which is nothing new. You look at who they've beaten, and it's not a real impressive lot. Plus, they suffered the most embarrassing loss of any CFB team this year. I think Alabama, SC, Ole Miss, or Miami would thrash them, let alone the rest of the playoff field. If Notre Dame gets pounded in the first round, I bet you'll see them being ranked lower in future seasons, at least until they start playing a real schedule. Those days where the top dogs could load up on cream puff games are over.

The way the upsets have come left and right this year under the new world order, this playoff is going to be insane.

I think Im gonna miss the days when every regular season game really mattered. Now its just take a brutal upset loss at home willy nilly, you’ll still be there in the playoff.
The Michigan win and Northern Illinois win, etc, wouldve been so much cooler if they destroyed their title hopes

I think Miami and Notre Dame would beat Bama.
Miami has a dynamic QB who can run and Bama cannot stop that.
And Notre Dame is just bigger and better disciplined. I will take their disciplined 4-star white guys over Bama's undisciplined 5-star yard apes at this point, without Saban around to corral them.

This is the first time in my life I would expect ND to be favored over Bama. If they lose in the first round to this Bama team who doesn't deserve to be in the playoff, they never hear the end of it.

As far as them being ranked lower going forward, people said the exact same thing after Bama throttled them in the 2012 title game. And then they said it again after Clemson embarrassed them in the 2018 4-team playoff. And then again after Bama embarrassed them in the 2020 4-team playoff without even trying - they barely opened their playbook and were saving it for Ohio State. ND will always be ranked for the same reason Bama is - they're a national brand. It is what it is.

Yeah, Bama and ND are name brands, but I think ND's luster has faded a little. They need a big win on a big stage to get that glamour back. They beat Alabama in a first round thriller, that'd go a long way. If they get obliterated, though, the outcry will grow and grow next time they're 10-1 with a big signature win over Georgia Tech. That loss to Northern Illinois was really, really brutal LOL. They'd probably be sitting at #2 or at least 3 without that loss.

Oh dude if they beat N.I. they'd be number 1 right now.
And I get that N.I. usually wins the MAC, but they suck this year. There's no excuse for that loss.
ND is overrated as they always are.

My point is a catastrophic loss to Bama in this playoff will mean nothing. ND haven't won a meaningful game since 1988 and no matter how many times they embarrass themselves on the national stage, they keep getting put back in the same underserved situation to do it again.

If their brand didn't take a hit after getting completely ass-fucked and cucked by Bama in 2012 just one week after the Mantei Teo catfishing humiliation, it never will. That had to be the most embarrassing week of press coverage in the history of college football and they just moved on like nothing happened.

LOL I remember that too. My old man was a big ND fan, so I always have a minor soft spot for the Irish, but they never fail to shit the bed in real games.

As an Irish Catholic from Boston, ND is the factory preset Ncaaf team, unless you go to BC. I grew up listening to the Irish on the radio with the old man while we did errands on Saturday. Notre Dame-BC was the biggest game of the sporting calendar back then, it was still called the Holy War.

I remember how excited he was when ND made the 2012 title game, and then he asked me about the Mantei Teo guy and I had to explain what "catfishing" was.

Toward the end of the first quarter, he called it - "That prick Saban is intentionally running right at our Hawaiian kid cause he knows he's fucked up. He's trying to demoralize him. And it's working. I'm going to bed."

Im not sure how much time Notre Dame has for keeping their powerhouse fanbase without winning a title or meaningful game.
Gen X is the last generation of catholics that grew up going to church en masse. Their kids probably feel enough apart of it because of their old man, but after that idk if they can keep losing and expect to get the goodwill theyve always had

Miami probably deserves it over Alabama, but they really blew it with that ill-timed loss at Syracuse. South Carolina might deserve it over both of them, but they got rolling too late. I'm hoping the conference championships are all wild upsets, to further muddy the waters and make everyone mad.
Also neither of them are named Alabama so that hurts their case for the Tuscaloosa Invitational

Lol the CFP committee projects 9-3 Alabama in over 10-2 Miami.

Sorry, Canes. Please resubmit to the Annual Nick Saban Invitational Tournament next year and we will reassess your application.
I’m so god sick of them getting rankings and bids they don’t deserve.

At some point, they're going to have to play a real schedule, as that's becoming a lot more meaningful than it ever has been before. They beat A&M, Louisville, Ga Tech, and Army, but meh, big deal. They really need a playoff win, on that national stage, to recapture that credibility and demonstrate they still belong.

That loss to Oklahoma was a real dud, and I figured it'd torpedo their spot for sure. But that name recognition...

Boise St UNLV shaping up to be a pretty good game despite their horrific field. @Cuphead what are your 2nd half lock bets?
