Giving more info than I should but I'm 25% Native and have lived on the Rez the majority of my life. My grandma and great aunts were the ones you could definitely tell by just looking at them that they were Native, and they were the most chill people I knew. It's the rest of my family...the halfbreeds who never shut the fuck up about the evils of white people(they all married white people btw). Apocalypto has been in my top 5 since the day my cousin convinced me to come see it in theaters with him many years ago. Mel is a masterful filmmaker. A little after the movie’s release, I took a tour thru the Yucatán jungle while in Cancun and got to see a lot of where it was filmed and even had an amazing lunch and bought some homemade booze and trinkets at one of the nearby villages where most locals didn’t even speak Spanish, they still spoke their indigenous savage babble. Highly recommend.
