Kramer to release tell all book addressing his “racist outburst that led to lifelong spiritual quest”

It was clearly an attempt at shock comedy but now he has to paint it like he was an awful person plagued by prejudices so people won't hate him for it.
It was not that. It was pure anger. Those niggers came to the club to harass the comics on purpose. They had done it the night before. The asshole club owner was too much of a pussy to handle things so Kramer did what all comics fantasize about. Unload on a disruptive audience member. He clearly couldn't believe that the club wouldn't deal with hecklers and Kramer didn't have the chops to deal with them diplomatically.

That’s a major part of it too - he was never a stand up and decided to start in his late 50s. From what I remember his shows were pretty bad with audiences not laughing at his jokes and a lot of silence. It was also at a famous LA venue and happen to be shortly after YouTube became popular and the start of everyone having recording devices. If that happened like 3 years earlier it would have never become what it did, that was when if you were there you saw it and didn’t even have the resources to have it go “viral”

People went because it was “Kramer” and they didn’t know what to expect from Michael Richards and he wasn’t a stand up. After the initial “oh look! It’s the guy from Seinfeld!” Cheers and applause and 5 minutes of polite chuckles it got bad because he was a new stand up and not “Kramer” as they expected to see.

I remember the stars of the show that weren’t Jerry got pissed back in the 90s when Jerry decided to end the show and not get a new deal which would have paid the main 4 a million per episode (which was unheard at the time - friends actually held out and got that deal for the last couple seasons) which was a sore subject for years, especially since that’s when shows did 20 plus episodes a season. I remember when it went to DVD it sounded like the people not Jerry and Larry were able to make good money off of it but I assume that’s dried up since people aren’t buying dvds anymore. Sounds like the Friends cast were able to get better deals than Seinfeld.
Those DVD’s were delayed for like 5+ years because none of the cast would do interviews for the extras without residuals and Jerry was being a jeeewwww.

They really put that dvd out at the right time to make the most money - couple years later and nobody was buying dvds anymore. DVD sales got Family Guy un-cancelled and Chappelle that 50 million deal.

I think the only other thing he did was a voice in Jerry’s Bee movie (talk about something nobody has mentioned since it came out) and after Seinfeld he had a short lived sitcom (he played a private investigator?) and a flop of a movie “Trial and Error” so those residuals are all he’s got and Jason Alexander still has to work - I remember he even tried a one man Vegas show.
He was a main character in some short lived sitcom like ten years ago. I genuinely forgot the name. Hold on I’ll look it up….

Kirstie - 12 episodes on TV Land in 2014.

I'm still stunned that Michael Richards is actually his real name. I was expecting to see he was born as a Shlomo or a Lorenzo.

Well to be fair he wants to write a book - fine, some people would read it. It would feel cheap or disingenuous not to mention the thing that literally killed his career.

But I do get what you’re saying, theres that clip where he brings it up on Comedians in Cars getting Coffee and Jerry just wants to strangle him. “Why are you bringing up your racist rant on my comedy show? Don’t you want people to move on from this?”

It was Jerrys show they could have cut it. Also they inserted it all awkward like into Curb

His apology is easily the single greatest moment in late night talk show history. I cannot think of anything that comes even close in second place.

"I, ummm, deeeeeeeply regret my, uh, use of language... I was wrong to call them those names. It's not like I was calling a spade a spade -

Oh no."

I honestly do feel quite bad for him. imagine your entire career and all of your credibility imploding in 45 seconds just cos you lost your temper. also, I laughed exceptionally harder at it than most standup I've seen

Is that because South Park did an episode about it? Or is that show not popular with your age group?
I have no idea but I doubt its South Park, thats more the old gen z / young millennials. I think its the memes which my generation is in touch with. Everybody understands what he did at duh laugh factory. Sniff
