That’s what I think, while he does get residuals from Seinfeld he’s pretty much been unable to do any work for almost 20 years. Julia Louis Dreyfus and Jason Alexander still were able to get plenty work all these years (they’ve both had their own shows - Jason’s were short lived) while also getting residuals. Same with the people from Friends - they lived good off residuals but still needed to work here and there.

JLD comes from money, so she doesn't have to, but she still has a semblance of demand.

I can't even think of the last time I saw Richards on TV besides Curb. Before that, I think it was just the infamous Letterman apology.

To this day I'll say "Staaahhhppp laffin, it's naaawwwttt funny" to the crew. Humourless twit, that Jerry.

I think the only other thing he did was a voice in Jerry’s Bee movie (talk about something nobody has mentioned since it came out) and after Seinfeld he had a short lived sitcom (he played a private investigator?) and a flop of a movie “Trial and Error” so those residuals are all he’s got and Jason Alexander still has to work - I remember he even tried a one man Vegas show.

I honestly do feel quite bad for him. imagine your entire career and all of your credibility imploding in 45 seconds just cos you lost your temper. also, I laughed exceptionally harder at it than most standup I've seen
And now people get “cancelled” for much less. I’m surprised more don’t fight back - “I only did this, it’s not like I pulled a Kramer!”

Was it an off Broadway musical? I'd love to hear him make a Rodgers and Hammerstein-esque number out of the Race Rant!

Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Lane can be the hecklers in Black Face.
I think he was playing a character he created - I know he had a broadway background and I remember seeing it advertised maybe 15 years ago in Vegas

Hack actor/comedian and surly prick Michael Richards was also in a terrible show called “Kirstie” with big fat Kirstie Alley about a decade ago.

It was swiftly cancelled.

I'm pretty sure that JLD and Jason Alexander said that they didn't get any Seinfeld residuals, only Jerry and Larry do. I remember Alexander being in the news some time back because he was upset that they only got paid once for it while Jerry and Larry are still getting a shit ton for it. I may remember wrong though,

the seinfeld cast doesn't get residuals. they tried to get them in the later contracts but were turned down and given a huge million an episode salary instead.

According to Wikipedia he hadn't been on tv before that since 2000 ( his short lived sitcom) and before bee movie in 2007 his last movie was 1997. I think he's less interested in saving his career since him going to standup was already a hail Mary.

Honestly doing curb and joking about it then leaving it alone would have been for the best, but I believe he just doesn't want people remembering him that way. But there's no way no matter how he reinvents himself that people are going to forget.

I remember the stars of the show that weren’t Jerry got pissed back in the 90s when Jerry decided to end the show and not get a new deal which would have paid the main 4 a million per episode (which was unheard at the time - friends actually held out and got that deal for the last couple seasons) which was a sore subject for years, especially since that’s when shows did 20 plus episodes a season. I remember when it went to DVD it sounded like the people not Jerry and Larry were able to make good money off of it but I assume that’s dried up since people aren’t buying dvds anymore. Sounds like the Friends cast were able to get better deals than Seinfeld.

Did they get the million an episode? I thought they were hoping to get that with future seasons but Jerry pulled the plug before they could get that deal to “go out on top”

I thought friends was the first to get a million an episode because I think they even held out until they got it and it was a big story for the cast to get a million an episode. Maybe it was a bigger deal since friends main cast had more people than Seinfeld.
