And now they oust him for…working across the aisle to make sure the Government doesn’t shut down. So now what happens? We go through the whole spiel of reelecting a Speaker of the House and hopefully before the budget deadline. Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? If they kept Mccarthy and the Gov shut down they could just blame Biden which people are already doing. Now everyone is going to look at Republicans and the absolute clown show they just put on for 6 months, from taking 15 ballots to elect the guy to dismissing him a few months later. This is the first time this has ever happened in our countries history.

And again I think my main point of contention isn’t what Mccarthys done or that someone could do it better than him. The point is is that Republicans now have 40 or so days to figure out who the Speaker will be. If they don’t figure it out in that time the Government will shut down and all the blame will fall on them and it will be their own fault. They could have just avoided this by ousting him after the budget. Or by not electing him to the seat at all. The Republicans are pretty fractured and this isn’t a good look.

Cops that serve the state and air traffic controllers go without pay while the government is unable to give loans to small business owners. Who will they blame if that happens? I just don’t understand what the hell HE was thinking. In politics above the citizens and your country you serve your party and he didn’t do that. If serving your party means shutting down the government then thats what you do, especially when the only reason you got elected was the fringe movement of your party basically saying “We’ll put you in this position but you have to do XYZ”. And then he didn’t do XYZ. Did he think he could have just skated or they were bluffing about removing him?

I think I do because I don’t understand the emphasis on “people”. I mean I think about the entire position of the Whip in the House. Their job is to literally run around like a little monkey making sure their party votes on what they want. And they literally have people who track what these people vote on and how it aligns with the party agenda. Not to mention the whole “pressuring to resign” thing. If I remember correctly I think it was Al Franken who refused to resign after his scandal and he was shunned so hard in the legislature that he was basically forced to go.
