Especially post-COVID I haven't experienced that. It seems everyone is trying to race out at 4pm to beat the traffic/ work from home as many days as possible, etc. Happy hours aren't even a thing at my office anymore, but that might be the result of having an older workforce

I've been friends with my best friends since we were kids. I have like five other people that I do consider my friends, but I avoid them most of the time. They text, I don't text back unless I really feel like it. With my best friends, I'm always happy to see or hear from them (which is every day) and I genuinely give a shit how they're doing. I walked into a restaurant one time, saw my one other friend-but-not-best-friend in there with his girlfriend and I turned around and left so I wouldn't have to have an awkward catch-up chat that I don't really care about.

Look at Vigoda trying to pull this "multiple equally best friends" crap once again, it didn't work when we were little, it ain't gonna work now. You gotta rank them individually. My best friend is some guy the sister-in-law was banging for a while, he gave me a Drill Master drill bit sharpener. And my second bestest friend forever is Joe who lives down the street and needed shear bolts for his snowblower last winter, their kids are friends with my kids.
