Is it just me or does the show seem to get more popular in the years after it went off the air? I remember it being popular when it was on NBC but it wasn’t like Friends or Seinfeld big.
DMCA, complaints, and other inquiries:
Yeah, it did really well streaming and I don’t think that’s really slowed down. People still binge it.Is it just me or does the show seem to get more popular in the years after it went off the air? I remember it being popular when it was on NBC but it wasn’t like Friends or Seinfeld big.

unfortunately. the only good thing to come out of its massive surge in popularity is to see a now-jaded ricky gervais openly say the show is shit and that it's only good for making him tonnes of residual cash. that alone is funnier than anything in the u.s officeYeah, it did really well streaming and I don’t think that’s really slowed down. The Office (and Friends) are women's version of a friend simulator. Is it just me or does the show seem to get more popular in the years after it went off the air? I remember it being popular when it was on NBC but it wasn’t like Friends or Seinfeld big.
Thanks to the US show Ricky has “Fuck You Money” - not many can say that.unfortunately. the only good thing to come out of its massive surge in popularity is to see a now-jaded ricky gervais openly say the show is shit and that it's only good for making him tonnes of residual cash. that alone is funnier than anything in the u.s office
The Office and Modern Family are the last network sitcoms that will ever have any widespread influenceIs it just me or does the show seem to get more popular in the years after it went off the air? I remember it being popular when it was on NBC but it wasn’t like Friends or Seinfeld big.
Yeah that’s the other one, that was before streaming really took over. NBC was know for owning Thursday night for decades (Cosby, Cheers, Seinfeld, Friends) and ended it with The Office. You’re right about the humor being “problematic” for 2023 and beyond. I’m surprised they haven’t pulled certain episodes from streaming yet.The Office and Modern Family are the last network sitcoms that will ever have any widespread influence
Also, even though they both seem fairly milquetoast, a lot of the humor would be "problematic" in 2023
brits aren't guilt free of these ventures, either. I remember there was a really shit uk adaptation of that '70s show called 'days like these', and it is utter rubbish. granted, so is that '70s show, but the point still standsOf the hundreds of remakes of British comedy shows that Americans have desperately attempted, The Office is one of the only ones that has worked. Also All in the Family.
WWAWD Carl Plinkerton (was that his name?)I've also never seen the US version. The British original seemed to be perfectly done - Two 6 episode seasons and a Christmas special. Even the romance between Dawn and Tim was done very well. One of the keys was that no one was good-looking (apart from the female manager, but she was perfectly cast.) They didn't look like actors. The whole point is that it's a "documentary."
Extras was good too. Everything else Gervais has done solo since (especially that godawful Brent on the Road show) proves that Merchant was the talented one. Hello Ladies on HBO is also hilarious, cringey af and skillfully resolves its romantic subplot with zero saccharine sentimentality.
Pilkington. Yeah, he was the whipping boy/idiot savant on their XM show back in the day (which I haven't heard much of - Gervais's hyena cackle makes Sam Roberts's laugh sound hearty and masculine) and they took that format and mixed it with a travel show for An Idiot Abroad, which was entertaining the couple of episodes of it I saw, but he's a bit of a one trick pony - we get it, he's dumb but occasionally comes out with surprisingly insightful thoughts spoken in fluent Moron.WWAWD Carl Plinkerton (was that his name?)
I didn't watch a lot of him but it always seemed to me that Carl was pushed more by Gervais than by Merchant.
Is Carl worth watching today?
Karl is the reason I got into radio shows 20+ years ago. He's not a act there's plenty of people like him.WWAWD Carl Plinkerton (was that his name?)

other than norm macdonald, who was at least intentionally funny, karl pilkington is the funniest person I have ever come across. his dry wit absolutely obliterates most seasoned comedians who actually try. I also personally like ricky, steve, and karl's radio show more than o&aWWAWD Carl Plinkerton (was that his name?)

I don’t know one person that watches any current comedy show on a prime time network. I think only CBS still has shows with a laugh track and that number has to be low.Anyone who watches "comedy" shows on the regular prime time networks like NBC, fox etc is a huge faggot
I feel like it paved the way for Reddit-tier "humah"I remember liking the original British version, but I hate our version’s fans so much, I’ve refused to ever give it a chance.
