I’m considered a millennial and as a kid my mom told me to plan on social security not being around. The boomer age people in my family are getting close to retirement age and I’m shocked how many have ZERO for retirement - they just all assumed social security will take care of everything. Really pisses me off they don’t require teaching personal finance in school. I agree with that, I took a personal finance class as well as one on investing in high school and those are probably the only two things I remember from high school and I cared to learn them since I figured it would be important. Now I work in investment banking so it paid off but so many of my friends in my age group have no idea about investing / the stock market / etc.

I graduated college right before everything went to shit in the economy in 2008 so maybe that helps with my perspective of not everything will be handed to you right out of college that younger people seem to believe. I feel social media always plays a big part in the vocal frustrations of younger people - they follow “influencers” and such on social media who seem to have perfect lives - money, travel, etc. and they don’t understand why they aren’t as lucky.
