Imagining the CEOs of Fiat and Gucci—two short, squat, mafioseque, Mediterranean old men—partnering up on this venture, i.e. the pinnacle of Italian industrial collaboration, is making me howl.

Just because two things exist, does not mean they should combine forces.

I can get one off Ebay delivered to my house for $600
Googling around, it looks like Guitar Center has them from $350-550 depending on condition. And I assume that GC tests and inspects their stuff before selling it and also has some kind of return policy. Joe is buying shit off Craigslist and driving seven hours to save a couple of bucks.

He's like Homer Simpson when he saw the classified ad for a free trampoline. This would be a great episode for my proposed Joe Cue-mia sitcom. Joe drives across the state to spend the monthly grocery money on a dusty old guitar amp. He gets home, and tries to justify it to Sea Hag and his bitchy daughter by playing "Cities On Flame" through it. Everyone goes to bed, the lights go out, and we see the amp smoking and flickering. We come back after the break, and the fire department is there..."oh, hey, Joe, what is it THIS time?". Classic TV slapstick comedy. It practically writes itself.

GC will test that it turns on an makes noise, that's it. But they do give you like 45 days to return any used gear.
