I always felt those office parties were all about Corporate monitoring who has an actual family (ie: mortgage/tuition etc) and hence willing to work overtime.

Generally speaking, i agree. This is my first year with a smaller organization and everyone attended so i felt like i should make the scene as a newbie. Going forward, i won't attend any more organizational events if I can help it, as i believe absolutely nothing good comes from it

Youngish guy (25 or 26, I think) who works(ed) for one of my clients and who I helped on a project was found guilty of staIking, harassing and raping his ex girlfriend this week. He's awaiting sentencing, but is looking at 3-5 years in prison. Dude is a bodybuilder and his lawyer tried to blame steroids. No go. That's one less person at their Christmas party.
