To be more specific with this its really trendy to be gay or any type of minority now. Who do you see mainly being gay as a trend? White kids. I'm a little too old to be a zoomer (going by da numbas I'm very late millennial) but I think my answer still has value.
I'm 40 with 3 kids under 10, and I say exactly the same thing. They can have one when they can buy it themselves. I'm not giving them a device with 24/7 internet access until they're mature enough to work a weekend job and save up for it.

This is a bit too much imo. The iPhone comes with plenty of tools that you can use to lock it down so they have limited/no internet access and a screen time limit. I think a healthy compromise is to let them have a cheap iPhone so they aren’t the Flanders kids at school and are still able to call/text their friends and shit, but with a hard block on social media and other degeneracy. You can also use your router to block adult websites and VPNs, and do the same through your wireless provider as well.
You could be right. I might be on to a hiding to nothing anyway, as my wife has said some of the same things you have and is a lot more worried than me about the prospect of them one day being the Flanders kids as you put it. Right now they're all in schools where smart phones aren't allowed, which is good, but that will change when they move to senior schools at 11/12. Making them work for things like that, and learning the value of money, is just as important for me though as protecting them from internet faggotry, so that's one "battle" I won't be willing to concede.
