Yeah, people amuse me. I read "How to Influence People" when I was younger and still put that to practice constantly. It's kinda the same satisfaction you'd get out of training a dog - to know that you can manipulate people into really liking you. That probably sounds horrible, but it's fascinating to me.

If I ever go to a coffee shop, I just buy the beans to take home and ground myself. All the workers look like they are just going to take your tip and donate it to the democratic party or Palestine.

I tip everyone, but I have been for years. I usually start out right away with a $5 handshake like a real greaseball ginzo and let them know I'm not done. It shouldn't be surprising, but if you toss a little cash around and make it a point to address people by the name on their shirt, most of them treat you like a prince. The appliance guys who delivered my washer and dryer got this treatment right of the bat and ended up tossing me a couple of hoses the faggot sales guy didn't tell my wife she needed and hooked everything up for me even though I didn't pay for it (but I guess I kinda did with the tip).

When I go to a show, the first drink I get I pay cash and tip 20% rounded up so they remember me. After that I pay card and tip like 10% (nigga you're opening a can of beer) and the last couple drinks I don't tip

The most fun I've had with tipping is in Europe where it isn't done. I do it anyway because the staff immediately stops paying any attention to locals and serves me almost exclusively, the wealthy arrogant American.

tipping someone for doing their bloody job is just absurd to me. my boss doesn't slide a fiver in my shirt pocket just for showing up 10 minutes early

I don't mind slipping the proprietor of some mom and pop place some extra bucks if I'm a regular and they're good people. Keep the change sorta deal. That's just common courtesy and neighborliness, and it'll probably pay off in one way or another.

Servers get a regular wage in my neck of the woods though so they can fuck off. Their income is a matter between them and their employer, not mime. If they don't like the arrangement then there's plenty of other dead end jobs out there. A corporate, formalized tipping culture is the height of Hebraism and completely antithetical to what a tip is supposed to be in my book.
