You got to understand this was the 80s, Ronald Reagan, Christian Televangelists, and all that jazz. Plus MTV was still fresh. Then all of a sudden you got this comedian, who comes out and starts shouting about drugs and whores. Nobody did that.

When you really stop and think about it, it's pretty fucking revolutionary.

He was one of those " you had to be there" comedians. Shocking at the time but aged poorly. He was pretty much a one hit wonder.

This described 99% of standup comics. It's amazing how dogshit all standup routines are not even a year after they debuted. Even though they spent years 'perfecting' their routines. Yet I can listen to old O&A or 90s Stern for 100 hours and not get bored. And they are mostly just bullshitting off the cuff on current events or whatever pops into their heads.

He was never able recreate his original heat. Once he got success it was booze,drugs, and whores til he died.

He's another example of someone gaining massive weight on coke. Artie would talk about how you'd ride the coke high and drink tons of booze. Then you'd get the munchies from drinking and instead of passing out the coke would let you stay awake until you gorged on a huge meal. Kinison supposedly died sober but who knows how truthful that was.
