It was just good timing for him I think. If I remember, they basically had no other choice but to sign him or start over with someone from the draft and they didn’t want to do that and/or didn’t have a high draft pick.

They were picking 30 that year. Lamar went 32. Plus I think his last year in Washington a lot of teams looked at him and thought "he'd be pretty good if Dan Snyder wasn't around to fuck him up."
