This made me laugh. Such an apt description. It's tedious, predictable, uninteresting music. You know where it's gonna go, then it takes it's sweet time getting there, and it always turns out to be nowhere. Those unbearable, sing-songy bridges and choruses straight from the Hetfield template, and Kirk playing the same solo in every song, it's all a big, soggy trudge.Thin, squishy, honky guitar tone since the 90's
Load / Reload could have been great if they just put the best songs on one album. Too much filler.Old Metallica fawkkiiin rocked though, despite me not listening to it much. The recording isn’t over processed, the playing has energy, and the energy feels authentic. Cliff Burton was the only person holding the band together musically, as James Hetfeld admits he didn’t even know what musical scales were before he met Burton. The biggest downside of their music at the time was their song writing because they write Ozzy cringe level lyrics.
And Justice for All was great, Black Album is their absolute peak. A lot of sonic and structural experimentation and you can actually fucking hear Jason Newsted on the album, which also he is an amazing bassist. Plus they got the hits in their for the casual listeners, with the songs still being pretty good and not phoned in shit.
After that it was all downhill. Load and Reload is boring borderline humiliating nonsense. St Anger might be their worst album, and i’m not saying that with any sort of bias. On every level it is fucking terrible. The lyrics suck and are the worst of any Metallica album. The sound of the album sucks. Hetfelds singing sucks. This was the first album where Metallica very obviously just copy and pasted sections of songs to avoid being creative. Death Magnetic was the nail in the coffin (no pun intended) with every negative trait of the previous album being turned up to 10 here. The only real difference is that this album doesn’t sound like it was produced in a garage, instead being over produced by Rick Rubin to the point where it’s completely lifeless.
After this there’s no point in listening. Death Magnetic was the last album where those guys, despite still being old, had the youth to pull off an album that could be good. More of the same happened with Hardwired to Self Destruct that made the previous albums so bad. More of the same with this new album.
I go fawkinnn deep with the music posting.
I can’t shit on them much for St Anger because it wasn’t ready but the label said we’re putting it out anyway because we just booked you a major stadium summer tour. It was obviously demos and song ideas that hadn’t been flushed out which lead to them leaving their label they had been with forever. They were already in a bad spot PR wise post the Napster issue and putting out an album that wasn’t close to being ready was all around awful. At least they know it was bad and have made jokes about it at concerts.St Anger got shit on for its drum sound but I like it and think modern metal could take a cue from it. Dunno how deep you go with da metal but every black metal band on a label like Season of Mist (except Drudkh) should have their shit overproduced drums swapped with St Anger’s and the music would be twice as good

then around 0:57~
I hear what you mean, they put more of a flourish on the end of the riff on Slither to make it different enough.Nah, 0:57 on Sandman and 0:30 on Slither. The main riffs. Slither's is just slower with bigger pauses in between.

If you ever watch that faggy documentary they did in the 2000’s it becomes evident how they make music. Nothing is fucking organic. All of Lars drums are quantized so everything is perfect. They literally say shit like “Alright we got a verse, we’ll loop that 3 times, then we do the chorus we loop that 2 times then we do a bridge”. They basically make music like following a cookbook.
As to why they think anyone wants this? They’re not thinking that because they don’t care. A.) Their fame and money is cemented. They could release an album of fucking farts and it wouldn’t hurt their bank accounts or reputations B.) There are people out there who don’t question the quality of music who will go THIS NEW METALLICA ALBUM ROCKS DUDE! but they would think it was shit if they didn’t know what artist made it.
