AMC cut out Up yours, nigger. Probably a decision from the same idiot who approved the last season of Better Call Saul.
I just put it on Hbo and that's how the stream started. Nothings really edited out. It's almost like you have to pay a certain toll of to watch this movie.

I'm going to watch Belly next. Will give findings after

I'm probably going to get shit for this take, but I don't mind this at all. If providing context is what it takes to stop people editing or destroying cultural history, it's probably a good thing. A big issue with shit like tearing down monuments and changing books in school libraries is it works on the ridiculously pompous assumption that society as a project is done changing, and this is the moment where we know for certain what is correct and appropriate, so it's fine to judge what can and cannot stick around forever. I think doing a context bump correctly assumes that the culture has changed, but also acknowledges cultural progress as an ongoing project, and doesn't prioritize contemporary sensibilities over the historical significance of a cultural artifact. In short - it's probably fine.

I try to explain this to my kids. Racism and bigotry have a foundation in anger and hate.

Racial and bigoted statements that have the goal of entertaining, amusing or just shocking others are NOT racist or bigoted. They are .....generally speaking ........ jokes.

Stop with the every racial statement/comment is racist. Mel was just trying to make people laugh.

There is an unbelievably disturbing and, what a normal person might describe as shocking, rape scene in A Clockwork Orange and there's no freaking warning at the start of that movie, but THIS stupid, juvenile movie needs a warning?

WTF. Seriously ...... WTF.

I get what you're saying and honestly, it may be one of and maybe THE best, most well thought out opinion I've ever read on these boards. But .......

Where does this end? It's enraging to me that anyone thinks a warning like this is even necessary for any movie. And if it's necessary for blazing saddles, what's next? Warnings before Rambo? Saving Private Ryan? Think about all the terrible shit depicted by Hollywood that DOESN'T have warning and - if warning are going to exist - think about the THOUSANDS of movies that need a warning before you get to blazing saddles.

If blazing saddles needs a warning like this, wait until you see the warning you get the next tine you order an on demand porno on Xfinity.

The thing is it's frustrating to see context added 50 years after something, it's a little patronizing 100 years after something, and its very welcome, if not almost necessary about 300 years after something. Without footnotes, and introductory notes, I don't think I'd be able to enjoy half of my gay, pretentious book collection. It doesn't stop anywhere, it's an ongoing process.

With lighter entertainment, the guy who plays Worf makes a good defense of the banned first season episode, and why it should be aired uncensored, if with context added.
