Show has aged poorly. It was super try-hard 14-year-old edginess back when it aired. Tons of sex, nudity, male rape plotlines, police brutality, and so on. And they had nothing to do with the plot unlike the rape scenes on OZ or Sopranos or the violence. It was just a bunch of cable executives saying "how far can we push cable television?" in a meeting level writing. Basically "oh we should have a male rape scene to be edgy!! LOL!!" instead of quality writing.
It was one of those shows where the main character was a white male committing crimes.....but then all of the fans of the show end up being white males....who root for the main character no matter how immoral he acts. And the main character never really did anything bad outside of the pilot episode from what I remember. Even the deaths of two major cop characters ***spoiler***
are not even done by Vic. Like imagine Sopranos if Tony didn't even kill Christopher but Christopher killed himself. Dexter did the same thing by having some woman kill Doakes and not Dexter himself. Only Sopranos and OZ had the proper writing for criminal maniacs where they actually killed anyone and everyone. Boardwalk Empire had that for the first two seasons as well with Nucky and Jimmy. Too much copping out with the writing.
The ending of the show is legendary though and helped the show overall. The ending of the show is close to The Sopranos in that there is no ending...but you basically know the outcome. And both of the main characters have no more friends or associates. The different is Tony keeps his family but Vic loses his. So the endings are unique in some ways.
I would recommend watching The Shield once without spoiling it by reading anything beforehand. But be warned that the show was written for cable tv watching teenagers. And not for adults like Sopranos. And there are a lot of secondary characters that are TERRIBLE. Unlike Sopranos where even minor characters were hilarious.
Also the nigger faggot cop on the show Julian or whatever. He murdered his wife on real life. And is doing life in prison without parole.

It's a great show with the best finale ever, but I can see how some people wouldn't like it. Too bad you didn't hang in long enough to see Anthony Anderson play the main villain. Spoiler: he fucking sucks.

that bitchy redhead casey would be my choice. She'd definitely do anal. Good show though. The shield was the shit. especially the first season. I have rewatched it several times and even if it's kinda dated it's really entertaining.
