The Syrian Embassy in Moscow just put on the flag of the rebels. I bet as we type this the Russians are giving them the carrots/sticks for why they should be fighting for Russia in the Ukrainian frontlines.

And no, the Russians are negotiating terms to have their Navy stay in Tartus
