Who amongst us hasn't scrambled the brains of an infant in order to pursue hedonistic pleasures?

Nah. If there's no redemption for the gravest of sins then Jesus died for nothing. It's funny to poke @NoBacon about it but if he's right with God on the day of judgement he'll be fine.

He will still have to do his time in purgatory. It goes by quick compared to eternity in heaven, but still.

Not sure about that. In orthodoxy there's supposedly an analogue but it's pretty hotly debated and doesn't make much sense to me. "toll houses"

Edit: it's not debated that there's some purification but the mode of it is up in the air. Not really a huge concern for me because I'm either going to hell (probably) or I'll have to go through whatever it is. But it's not purgatory.

I just mean that I'm not hung up on what exactly the sanctification process looks like. Both churches agree that something goes on but the form is one of those mysteries that doesn't bear dwelling on.
