The jays and magpies had a turf war at my house years ago, jays won. I like both, but the magpies would divebomb my cat, so I'm sure he was happy they got routed. Used to keep a feeder for the juncos and tits and finches and such, but it became a death trap once the cat noticed so I took it down. Finches will nest in the space under the front door eave, I'll get a pic and post it later.
I keep half a dozen chickens right now, they rule. I recommend a minimum of two to anybody with enough space. You still end up paying more for eggs than if you just bought them, but you cannot buy better eggs and the chickens are endlessly entertaining.
