They’re going in tonight to take Kyiv. They’ll do it easily but it could be a bloodbath

It's hard to trust any of the western news sources on who is winning and losing, are the Russians really fucking things up this bad? The Pollocks and Belorussians are on the verge of joining the conflict.

He has a legitimate grievance as far as NATO encroaching on his borders goes but he alternates between that being the reason for Russian military presence in the region with a rose-tinted view of Ukraine being "historic Russian lands" which it is and it isn't. He's made no bones about his deification of Peter the Great and now seems intent on returning Russia to its geographic scope from that period of Tsarism - basically Russia, Belarus and Ukraine as one nation in all but name. Puppet governments in the latter two but him calling the shots.
If he did, he'd be saying that instead of claiming Ukraine isn't a real country and is part of Russia. The whole argument that NATO caused this fails because 1) Ukraine isn't a member of NATO 2) NATO membership moves at glacial speed, especially since they understand the downstream effects of Ukraine membership, so it's not like they were on the verge of membership 3) NATO membership has always been voluntary.

Putin invaded Crimea after his proxy in Ukraine was legally removed by a supermajority of its parliament. And it wasn't because of NATO membership, it was because of EU membership, which also moves slow as fuck and would've likely opened the books on internal corruption in Ukraine even most than NATO membership would've. So it was in the works, but slowly and would've taken almost a decade.

The events since 2014 have been the result of Ukraine following an independent path. Eurozone membership doesn't threaten Russia's security, and NATO membership was deeply unpopular in Ukraine until Russia took over chunks of their country. This isn't about security, because a Ukrainian invasion of Russia is ridiculous on its face. Fuck, in the Yelstin days there was real talk about Russia joining NATO.
