Greece and Turkey are both NATO members so there's that too.

The Frogs stick them in literal ghettos. They also need ID to do anything there (true in most European countries), and the benefits system is needs-based, finite and dependent on actually finding work. Contrast that with the UK where they'll be immediately placed in a hotel at the taxpayers expense, don't need an ID card (so can disappear and work on the black market) and can apply for and receive decent government housing and generous welfare payments. It's absolutely worth it for them to save up a few grand and pay an Afghan or Albanian bandit for an hour long dinghy ride, even with the risk of drowning.
