Greece can't take Constantinople back because of America. Turkey is more strategically important and would support them in a second, that's why they turned a blind eye to the 1974 invasion of Cyprus

Greece and Turkey are both NATO members so there's that too.
Pre NATO they were just too weak from occupation and civil war to reclaim anything.
Fun fact Greece still calls it Constantinople not Istanbul and they have a soccer team who's home is Constantinople but they play out of Athens haha

Mainland Europe must be shit with the amount that cross the channel risking their lives to leave France to get to the UK. A few die every few months as it's 20+ miles and it can get choppy

The Frogs stick them in literal ghettos. They also need ID to do anything there (true in most European countries), and the benefits system is needs-based, finite and dependent on actually finding work. Contrast that with the UK where they'll be immediately placed in a hotel at the taxpayers expense, don't need an ID card (so can disappear and work on the black market) and can apply for and receive decent government housing and generous welfare payments. It's absolutely worth it for them to save up a few grand and pay an Afghan or Albanian bandit for an hour long dinghy ride, even with the risk of drowning.
