Would you take a job with less money if it meant you could travel all over the world lots?

Easy choice, work near home. Use the 5 sink money to take real vacations where/how you want.

Work trips mostly suck unless you get free time to do stuff and/or you work with cool people. In your line of work probably low chance of working with cool people you’d want to hang out with.

I concur. The times I've traveled with work I'm always grateful after to have seen a new place, but the actual trips blow/are stressful and have high chance of going sideways. Especially post-COVID and travel budgets slashed, the actual enjoyable trips are few and far between. If company sends you somewhere, the trip is likely to suck these days.

Do people still get flown out to Vegas and shit like that for fluff conferences anymore?

Depends on what you do when you're traveling, are you flying to China to then sit in a room for 8 hours a day? If it's more lax than that I would get the traveling job.
