Because the Chinese hate Japan. The last two movies didn't even make their budget back domestically. It was all international. F9 opened at $70M in the USA and $137M in China, and is the only movie other than Endgame to have a $100M+ opening weekend.

This franchise legitimately confuses me. I remember the first one coming out when I was a teenager and it being OK at best even when I was 15. How it's spawned over 10 sequels just doesn't make sense.

Vin Diesel has had the most blessed career of any actor. He's almost talentless but still being talked about 25 years later.

If you adjust the domestic gross by inflation, interest in these films has flatlined in the US for the last 15 years. Furious 7 only got interest because of Paul Walker's death being in the news at the time, and that was 10 years ago. Aside from Paul Walker's final film, none of them can make $250M domestically. Only the chinks are keeping this afloat.
