Where to get a cool suit?

For the upper part of that budget, you can get a "Made to Measure" suit. It's not fully bespoke, but it's much better than off the rack. They measure you and get it fitted perfectly for you and you get options to personalize it to your particular taste as far as fabric, lapels, pockets, etc.

Use the google machine and find nice places in your area that do "made to measure." Considering you want to emulate a brazilian MMA fighter, you're going to have to look at their websites to see if they have more "modern fit" suits, so Brooks Brothers and places like that probably won't work.

Do people suit up for UFC fights?

Honestly I have no idea if they do. I guess I could just order an affliction t-shirt from 2006 and go a different way with the look.

It's NYC bro, I'm sure it'll be fine

but I'd start with googling "Made to Measure suits + Your City" and see what comes up. You'll be able to see the ones/style you prefer.

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere. It should take under 2 months, so you have time, but not a ton depending on how you go with it

Do you know your measurements ?

After looking at tons of pics it seems the crowd mostly just wears button downs if they’re not in jeans.

I just want to have a special event. Dress up like a douche, go to the weigh ins, go to the fight, get hammered, get laid, barely survive the flight home on Sunday.

Based on original post, Italian seems obvious...something more fitted and sleek
Corneliani is a good Italian brand, not too dear.
Brioni is a bit expensive and their quality has diminished throughout the years.
Lardini is a good brand, very Italian. Also Etro.

Choose either grey or blue, preferably blue. Never black. You're not an undertaker or a waiter.

Too tight on the body. You gotta breathe in these things. You're already gonna be nervous from the attention.

I always went grey before. You think blue is better? Patterned in some way?

What's your budget?

At minimum, make sure it fits at the shoulders. A tailor can usually take care of the rest.

Different brands have different fits. Try on different ones to see what suits your body type.

Go for a suit jacket that has at least half-canvas construction, never glued or fused.

Good looking out, thanks.

I never owned anything nicer than a tailored banana republic suit before. Learning a lot here.

Budget $1500-3000

If I had that budget, I'd check out Knot Standard. I'm not in New York, but a former co-worker only had good things to say about the one in DC.

Suit Supply is another good option, and you'll find it at the lower end of your price point. The sales reps may try to up-sell you on some alterations that aren't 100% necessary, so just be aware of that. This place would honestly be my pick - it's a good value proposition, and it leaves you some leftover cash to spend on important accessories like shoes (go for something with a goodyear welt).

I wear a Charles Tyrwitt slim fit and a Brooks Brothers regent fit. They have a half canvas construction (same as Suit Supply), and you'd definitely be be able to get them for under $1,000. I also have a Hugo Boss suit, but I was lucky to find one at a good price at an outlet store near me some years ago.

I appreciate the offer but the South America thing skeeves me out and I probably wouldn’t have it by the fight.

I agree re: tailoring, but wouldn’t I buy the suit first then go get it tailored? I used to do that with my jeans
What’s your body type? Some people can buy right off the rack and with a bit of hemming it looks fine. Some people are wider in the shoulders and chest than most and off the rack never works.

My advice? Find a good alterations person. Buy a Hugo boss suit from a Boss outlet store and get alterations done. Nice suits and the less expensive Boss suits use a material that breathes really nicely so they’re quite comfortable if you wear em for a long time or have to drive/fly in them. I have a few of those and they look pretty good.

I've taken the same approach by getting a suit at the Hugo Boss outlet near me, and it's still best suit in my closet.

Glad to see I'm not the only Hugo Boss fan here!
