Yeah but not for a while which is where all the confusion crept in. He did an interview years after saying he thought it was obvious that Tony died. In everyone else's defense it's only obvious if you've been to film school.

Long story short, if you watch the shot after the bell rings for someone coming in the door, it's always a POV shot from Tony's perspective. The last time it happens it's followed by 10 seconds of a black screen which is the perspective of Tony because he's dead
