Wes Anderson is a dickwad

Just saw a preview for his new movie. Thing is, it’s just like his other movies :

Quirky Dialogue
Actors with basically 1 emotion
The frame of shooting that he has an imaginary line down the middle with everything equal on both sides
Shitty music

Fantastic Mr Fox being the exception. Now that was good

Many others have said the same. Wonder what the factor of difference was about FMF that makes people forgive it and enjoy it more than other Anderson films?

Can’t just be the voice acting of Cloons, though he does give a charming slick performance as ever.

I loved the weird, intense little cub character with white hair—the one coach Owen Wilson would bully for being shite at sports. “I’m an athlete…”

It is odd how you can make something as great as Grand Budapest Hotel and then shit the bed with everything you make after. Before that film, he made good stuff and then it's like he put in so much of his talent on that film that he just burned out after.
That movie was garbage and was partially intended to kiss the ass of the blackmailing, kid fucking Jews who run his industry. He was rewarded for it, much like Tarantino was for his bullshit WWII film.

Return to me, Stenton.
I kinda liked The Royal Tenenbaums when I was a kid. It is like peak quirky, faggy bullshit though. Apparently Gene Hackman was a fucking psychotic prick on the set and after a certain point they started having Bill Murray just stand around basically supervising whenever they had to film anything with Hackman because they realized he wouldn't fuck around when Bill Murray was present because he was the only one who just absolutely wouldn't take Mean Gene's shit and it scared him.

I remember reading about that. I don't think Gene (RIP) was scared, but Murray isn't at all the very sensitive, neurotic type that Wes and maybe others on set were. I think Gene was instinctively bullying delicate flower Wes and preventing him from doing his job properly.
I remember watching a whole press event for that later film with Bruce Willis, and Wes was a muttering, drugged up mess. I thought, yeah, the bullying makes more sense now.

The legendary japanese director Yasujirō Ozu's trademark was directing basically the same story over and over again, attempting to "perfect" it through repetition, so a lot of his movies have basically the same story and many of the same actors, same tone and rhythm etc. Wes was deeply influenced by him and his visual style, his meticulousness and symmetrical cinematography and stilted weird performances, that's all from Ozu. Many uninformed critics don't know this and just assume he makes the same films over and over again cause he's a hack who can't come up with anything new but in reality he's merely taking notes from Ozu San

So instead of being a hack with only one idea, he's a hack with no ideas that had to copy from better directors.

Another fanboy resorting to calling people “uninformed critic”. Basically giving the response “well if you don’t like it, you’re stupid”. If you make the same thing over and over because it works, that is like a comedian telling the same jokes for 30 years. Hack

Look, I’m not a Wes Anderson fanboy, and I don’t go out of my way to watch his stuff. But I do understand at least why he does what he does and virtually no one I've seen anywhere acknowledge these obvious connections between him and Ozu. Just reducing it all to “he’s a hack who makes the same movie over and over because he’s a hack” completely ignores these facts. Every filmmaker borrows from their influences. By that logic, all directors are hacks too.

Everyone gave reasons, and you’re repeating yourself.
