Saddam was playing by the "international rules"....he made legal claims to Kuwait, (part of the governate of Basra) and the Kuwaitis also audaciously demanded back billions that they loaned him in his war against Iran. Same thing Putin is doing

In retrospect, he should have blitzkrieged thru the whole Gulf, until he reached Omani-Yemeni border, and just kept finding allies along the way from this Bedouin Tribe or that.

Then when Bush Sr threatened, he could have closed the Straits of Hormuz. The only reason he didn't do these things is because he was playing "ball" against people more ruthless and slick than him (Anglo-American war machine).

Anyway, he repented when imprisoned and became a Muslim. I'm sure them turning Uday and Qusay into pancakes helped. Then he got hanged by Iranian agents with an American green-light. The only reason Russia isnt blitzkrieging thru Ukraine is because its waiting for cracks to develop in NATO. When it happens (and it will), Russia will swoop in and "lean" on Europe breaking loose from the US created European-order. When that happens, it will request every country east of Austria to leave NATO, and with Trump in office, the dismantlement of NATO will commence.

This whole war would have ended 2 years ago if Ukraine accept the fact that there are regions, within their borders, that do not and never wanted to be part of Ukraine.

They speak Russian and are Orthodox Christians. They had been ignored and abused by the Ukrainian government for decades.

With the exception of Crimea, these regions you speak of overwhelmingly voted for independence from Russia in the early 1990s.
