I post this even though I own a bunch of shares in Chinese EV companies.

I’m always a bit dubious of YouTubers who shove promotions for VPNs on their channel. EVs aren’t perfect and a lot of those safety issues are a byproduct of those countries having lack safety laws when it comes to cars. You’ll see the same shitty standards on Non-EV vehicles. To sell those same cars in Europe or America they have to improve their safety which usually adds a few thousand dollars to the price once it reaches our shores.
